take three!
trying to brush up on subpixelling for a more believable breathing animation. i'm completely inexperienced with the technique, so any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
the thing is, subpixeling is a technique that needs more colors to do it. It is smooth movement of the SHADING, after all. At least, one in-between color to make the anti-aliasing should be made.

in that case, i think i'll have to scrap loaf's idle for now. i want to be rigid on my palette and not add any extra shades of anything just for one instance.

i've got some new stuff! specifically: two new guys.
TYLER MCBRIDE
and
STEVO, the first (and last) asymmetrical character. he's gonna be fun to animate.
outside of that, here's something a little more familiar.
gatsby's idle special/crowd control move.
also, the first character select portrait.
if i ever have cutscenes (or really any major story for that matter) then this can double as a dialog portrait. handy!
EDIT: just to be clear here: i'm not going to make any more characters, i just wanted to get a good-sized cast built up. now that i have six well-rounded characters, i'm going to be focusing on finishing crappy, gatsby, and then maybe tyler.
gatsby portrait. i'm not confident on the shading here, but i needed to make the claw stand out in front of his side. any advice?
on a different note,
heads-up display mockup. the score is pretty arbitrary, but at the same time, would it really be a beat 'em up without a scoring system?
be sure to add a hellacious combo system

better hud mockup. i realized a little bit ago that the P3 and P4 huds, in their current position, would not be able to easily show information for attacking/attacked enemies/objects and picked up items, so i opted for a more x-men arcade approach with a wider screen size. i made sure that both width and height are still multiples of 8.

How about 480x272 (ie PSP) or some equivalent more realistic screen size?
Looking good, though.

streets of rage. I just beat this game on my sega genesis.. for the 3rd time.
OH BOY NEW STUFF
updated gatsby's idle special with exactly one new sprite. it's vaguely smoother now!
this is gatsby's lil' bro, lammy. (no really this guy represents gatsby's real life bro)
he'll be held hostage by the main villain.
tyler portrait! i really like how this one came out.
quick question: even though this is not a game (yet), would it be acceptable to talk about game concepts and story stuff in this topic?

Yes you can, the only reason Ai Shite Keeki and Super Arisa World were moved was because of programming progress.
(also Gatsby's portrait's claw looks off, maybe rotate it or move it up?)

alright, badass!
as for gatsby's portrait, i think i found a fix. i'm going to move his claw to behind him, and then i won't have to worry about his shading so much. i might change up its shape a bit, too.
EDIT: take two!
I personally liked his claw in front but either way looks great.
