Case in point:
Hey now, those are good games
I dunno, I could easily see Wario just fighting Mario to be a douche because
He's a douche
Doesn't really need a whole lot of explaining besides him being a douche

Good game or not (being a huge fan of DK) when I saw him like that, it made me throw up in my mouth a little. I'd rather play as DK being a hero than fight him.
Same with Wario, he's more fun to play as, than to fight.

But um. I don't think any game (not considering spin-offs, of course) has Mario and DK on good terms with each other. Same with Mario and Wario (Super Mario 64 DS doesn't count, there's no character interaction), so why would it be weird? While DK is not an anti-hero, he does whatever he wants. And well, Wario is an anti-hero, so he would be a good villain, I don't see why not.

Well it's up to the people. If more people want x character to play the villian than actually be playable, so be it.
I just assume more people would rather play as these characters.
Actually its up to the developers but you know what I mean.
I think Nintendo is kind of already on a roll with making villains playable, and they forgot to install a brake. I mean, it's not a bad thing, but just look at Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. Bowser doesn't become good by any means, he's still the same old villain, but he's playable. Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if "Super Koopa Bros." came out any time soon.
Still, I don't really mind either way. Whether or not a villain is playable, I'm sure they'll keep their disposition the same, which is really what matters most in a villain, more than if you get to beat them up or not. Wario will always want to be rich and fat, Bowser will always want to kidnap Peach and take over Mushroom Kingdom, Donkey Kong will always, uh, have a grudge against Mario (or whatever he does, I dunno).

Rather than him just fighting Mario because he's a douche, I think a more logical reason would be if he wanted all those coins Mario collected over the years. I mean, seriously, Mario is probably richer than Princess Peach*100 now. Fighting Wario because he's simply a douche is great and all (I'd actually buy the game just for that), but I'm sure most people would prefer a more sane story.

Didn't he just steal toys? I mean he's an ape, so it kinda makes sense for him to take something because he wants it. Also if we're doing the whole Rare DK universe where DK Jr. is now DK, having his dad (old DK/Cranky) kidnapped by Mario would probably lead to a bit of bad blood, but then why would he want Mario toys? I don't think Nintendo needs to make a lot of sense to have people fight each other.
Also playing as the bad guy is awesome (aka Bowser in numerous RPGs) and Wario is never really a hero, he's more just after gold - if he does some good along the way then so be it. His intentions are never pure. It'll be pretty easy to have a Mario Vs. Wario story, for example: say Mario was going to unveil a big gold Peach statue (which he should have somewhere as he got one at the end of Mario Land 3) only for a note to be in it's place saying "HAHAHAHA - Wario" when the curtain went up. There done. As long as Wario is never trying to control the world (or kidnap someone, that might also be weird) and his reason for being the final boss etc. is money it sits fine within the Mario universe.
Nintendo needs to embrace Wario a bit more, that's all I'm saying. Though I can also see them not doing so as that's just how they are.

I try to forget about that game...
He's also a main character in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, Virtual Boy Wario Land, Wario Land 2, Wario Land 3, Wario Land 4, Wario World, Wario Land: The Shake Dimension, and all the WarioWare games. So yeah, that's not the only one
I do want to play that though, from what I've seen it looks really cool.

This needs to be done.

That's just silly. I fail to see what could be a dumb reason for wario to fight mario.
He's a greedy bastard and he'll do anything to get rich, he stole a castle, he goes treasure hunting, hell he'll even make a shit ton of games for the sake of cash. My point is, it's wario. Having him not fight Mario on this one would be wasted potiential of it's own because that kills the purpose of him being a money hogging little shit who would do anything to get a nickle from his grandma.

If it's awkward for Mario to fight Wario, why does Wario even exist? He is designed to be the "bad Mario" (WAru maRIO). He might not be evil, but he's not in good terms with his almost namesake.

Kind of derailing from the Wario talk and more about awesome stuff Nintendo would never do, you know what would be an awesome thing for the Koopalings? If they had costumes and fighting elements that referenced OTHER Nintendo games. Like picture one of them dressing in a Link hat and shooting sword beams across the screen, or one dressing in Samus-like armor and shooting a lot and going into their shell a lot and getting into harder to reach places like Samus with her morph ball.
Just saying, it could be funny, even if it was just ONE of them doing ONE reference.

Dude, your a cool guy - but that sounds damn awful. I'd rather see the Koopalings become more individual than reference gags.
Or use robots from Yoshi's Safari (yes I liked that game...)
