I find all the "explanations" for things to be more like immersion and character development, something Pokemon has been lacking for a while. I kind of like it, but I wont shove it down anyone's throat like I do with 3rd gen.

It only has to be hard during the first few gyms, like in rby and gsc.

but this was so easy I didn't even lose any health against roxie

In game guy: use magnemite if you want to beat roxie easily
>uses magnemite to beat roxie easily
Amon: that was to easy!

also before you guys start to complain about difficulty I hope you set the game on set mode instead of baby easy shift mode, and aren't spamming potions

also if you want a real challenge try finding someone with the challenge key
(the difficult part is finding someone that can actually give you one, not the game after you receive it)

I never used potions but there are difficulty settings?
I still think this is a fantastic game if the game is going to give me a pokemon with a huge advantage over the gym the leader needs to have a move effective against it.

also what "in game guy" you mean those gym attendants? did he say that?

GSC gave you Geodude before Falkner and Stantler before Marty...

falkner knew mud slap and could knock out geodude in one hit

stantler didn't have any acess to moves to hurt ghosts types that early in game (except mud slap which didn't do too much due to being weak + curse)

cheren literally spammed that buff move during every turn and never attacked and he had pokemon you'd expect from a generic youngster
roxie was kinda like lt surge in the sense that you get a pokemon that rapes her entire team just one route next to the city

also pokemon wasn't about challenge but theres a difference between challenge and farmville level easy
it'd be more immersive to have someone ask you "hey do you know this?" and being able to say yeah i know instead of them going on and on and on (the only time they actually did this the response I got was "i'll tell you even if you know anyways" it made me v buttmad)

Meant HGSS, thought everything was the same but I just don't remember Falkner having that in HGSS and Stantler learns a ghost move in 4th gen.

I usually play in a way that I only catch what I plan to use long-term, so I skipped Magnemite. Oshawott/Riolu did just fine.

You shouldn't have to go out of your way to make the game challenging. There should be some set amount of difficulty already in game.

Pokemon is really bad at this.

in a game that's meant to apeal to all age groups I find no problem with this
and I wouldn't really consider it going "out of your way" to form a team that demands a more involved play style, since the game is already so heavily decision based

players are just so spoiled nowadays

btw amon it's just some guy in town that says that, don't remember which guy exactly

Except the game isn't really decision based in game. It's decision based when you play with friends or family, but in game you literally steamroll everything with absolutely no effort at all no matter what you choose and it is really, really easy to make the game more challenging while still making it so that everyone can pick up the game and start playing.

The player base isn't spoiled. There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting a slightly more challenging game, especially if they view it as a flaw.

Am I the only one that had a hard time with Cheren? lol The rest was -kinda- easy. I don't know, I'm having my share of challenge and the gyms are different and interesting enough to keep me entertained (the classic gym music changing every new one is great). I didn't finish it yet, but this is one is looking like one of the most polished entries in the franchise yet, it's filled with so much content (new one too) it scares me.

I also play like Tonberry, I generally only use Pokémon I'm interested, not because they're stronger than that gym's type. Otherwise, every generation ever will be freaking easy.

I also have to disagree with being able to steamroll no matter what you pick. When I used to have a psychic/ghost team, I would always have a hard time somewhere along the way, as much as ghosts can learn a variety of moves, sometimes it's not enough. Pokémon was never THAT challenging in the first place, most of people's memories are about them not understanding or knowing typing very well yet.

Some of the gyms were really difficult for me, actually. Clay's Excadrill kicked my ass like 20 times, and I had to take my abandoned Sunflora out of the PC box just to have a chance against him. Marlon was kind of a dick also. The E4 were decently difficult, took me a few tries for each of them (excluding the Champ, who I almost lost against, but Dragon-types in general weren't hard because I had a Beartic)

My team when I beat the E4 was:

Gumshoe the Emboar
Chouko the Eelektross
BlueBadger the Beartic
NotTheBees the Vespiquen
GarbageDay the Garbodor
Ducklett the HM Slave
