Eh, I had to watch Batman & Robin (1997) in theaters twice when I was young. That was a few years before I learned of its negative reviews.

The recent movie I watched is Dredd (2012) on DVD. It's pretty graphic, but a decent reboot with some best moments.

Just watched Argo - was really awesome! Very cool true story, though I know some of it is made up, it is pretty close to factual.

I'm now watching 5 Broken Cameras, a documentary filmed from the first person perspective of a Palestinian and his village's non-violent but disruptive efforts to stop a movement from the Israeli army taking over their land in Bil'in.
It's filmed alongside footage of his 4th son growing up, from his first birthday, chronicling the world that he's growing up in. At the same time, his camera is constantly being broken from gunshots, grenades, and other violent actions from the Israeli army.
Probably not for most people. Shows dead bodies, lives ruined, and gunshots to innocent people.

I'm in the middle of watching Footloose - the new one, because my mum and I are killing time before another film we want to watch starts. It's... not terrible! I mean the main guy is nowhere near as attractive as Kevin Bacon, but it's still dorky and kind of adorable, and it looks like they've kept a lot of important bits (teaching the best friend to dance, etc) and the music is the same, so. COULD BE WORSE?

Everything added to Watchmen which wasn't in the original. just messed it up. It would have been better to try and preserve the "this is how people thought" in he past instead of introducing new themes to make it relevant to today's audience, failing, and hurting the story in the process. New ideas can work, but not in this case. Kick-Ass is such an example where the movie is probably better than the original because it gives characters a much needed motive beyond "I am mental."

I think people who know nothing about Batman will think Rises is great. I liked Begins, thought Dark Knight was awesome, but Rises was hugely disappointing. Batman would never just 'hang up his cape' and in the previous film it was established that Bruce Wayne was the mask, not Batman yet now it has switched back with no effort for a woman he just trusts for no good reason.

The Dark Knight Returns (graphic novel, though the first half has been released as an animated movie now) is just such a better 'this is how Batman ends' story that it eclipses Rises in every possible way.

Also Bane is just terrible in Rises. The whole muffled voice is just so stupid that it's hard to take him seriously and I just want to laugh every time he says anything.

Really? I personally think most of the changes made to Watchmen improved the story greatly - especially the ending, because the giant squid thing made no sense, even the second or third time around.

Also, what new themes? It's a pretty straight adaptation, to be honest, with the exception of the ending.

Batman Rises was pretty shit imo. Charlie loved it, but she just likes the new films - I've got to agree with you on all fronts with Rises.
What I find interesting is it does the thing which I always feel wrecks an ending; don't TELL the audience about something you referenced earlier - make it subtle, make people THINK about what they've seen earlier in the film.

It's like putting up a big message saying "SEE LOOK IT'S LIKE WHAT WE SAID BEFORE LOOK DO YOU REMEMBER HERE LET US REMIND YOU"

Rock Of Ages, which was MUCH BETTER THAN EXPECTED??? Like the music was great and the singing was all pretty good and it was funny and I didn't want to punch Russell Brand in the face!

Also it's a crying shame Tom Cruise is a Scientologist, because hot damn.

Just saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. Dunno if I posted it here but we saw Part 1 a while ago.

Pretty good, it's been years since I read the book and I've pretty much forgotten everything except for significant bits so it was pretty interesting. I enjoyed seeing how the bits I did remember were portrayed though, my sister pointed out some inconsistencies but I mean you can't have it exactly the same.
All in all it was very nice, lots of epic shots that really gave a good atmosphere to the movie, and basically a very good ending to the series.

I find the Harry Potter films are very bad at establishing important characters. Maybe I'm just not that interested in the story but I end up having to re-watch the old films after seeing the later ones in order to remember who the hell people are.

As for me, Robocop and Robocop 2.

You know, Robocop 2 has such a strong idea about what is human and his relationship with his wife and all that - and then drops is for a crappy "Here's a bad 'improved' Robocop 2" kind of story. I have little faith in the Robocop remake, but I think if they take on board some ideas from Robocop 2 for the potential sequel to the new Robocop they could have something.
