To consider another side of the equation: it might still be worth it for LP channels to do Nintendo games simply to attract an audience for their other videos.

If Nintendo gets money from the LP ads (30%, 50%, 100%, whatever) wouldn't it technically be in Nintendo's best interest to advertise LP's on their website? Wouldn't that mean the LP'ers would have potentially more subscribers??
Isn't that the point of an LP; to share the experience of the game with a ton of people??? (If you're making LP's and leeching off others' creativity for the sole intention of making money then I already hate you, scumbag)

The biggest problem I can see is that Nintendo is taking ALL the money from the ads, when in my opinion it should be split between the LPer and Nintendo. The LPers would be getting paid for the commentary and such, and Nintendo would be getting paid for the gameplay. Everyone would win.

EDIT: Never mind me. I jumped into Page 4 and totally didn't notice the argument had mostly ended on Page 3, but it looked like it was still going on Page 4. I am a moron and thus ignore my post.

Didn't bother to read the entire thread, but basically, this doesn't really affect me since I don't watch LPs unless people want to show me one.
I do think it's a bit stupid of people to monetize LPs in the first place though. It's already illegal to show movies for free, the only reason the same doesn't count for games is because they're interactive and the experience depends on the player. Making money off of LPing is really pushing it, in my opinion, and I wouldn't have risked it if I was an LPer. Thanked by: Helmo

He raises valid points. I still think that, although the ideal solution would be to have a 50/50 split, money shouldn't be made from doing a full run of the game. If you're just doing reviews and use clips from the game to raise points, then whatever, but as full on LPs, you're still broadcasting the majority of the contents of something people would otherwise have to pay to see for themselves.

50/50 is ludicrous. If anything companies should take 80% if not all, they're the ones who made the damn game, and just because you spent some time thinking up something funny to say and spent the time playing through the game you really aren't entitled to jack shit. Might seem a bit rough, but I don't see how LP's are entitled to making any money off of what somebody else actually made.

This just in:
Start making your own soccer balls. Wilson is claiming copyright on all videos featuring theirs! They say: "We made it. We made that ball. We get all the money for anything having to do with that ball." HIDE YOUR CHILDREN!

Here's the difference, professional athletes are sponsored by those companies if that's what's even going on with these last two posts, and I don't see people putting up videos on YouTube extensively reviewing, going over the features of a ball all the while cracking jokes and expecting to get paid.
Don't really get the point you two are trying to make
