I feel like everyone's honing in on the shitty policies and letting that seep into their opinions on Microsoft's game front, which actually still looks pretty good.

The problem is I'm not going to spend $500 on the shitty ass system just to play ONE good game

that will probably have awkward controls due to kinect

To be completely fair, what exactly can you do to the FPS genre to make it innovative nowadays? And assuming you have a good innovative idea, how well can it hold up as a business venture?

As sad as it is, you're better off making a dull, pointless shooter that executes and old tried-and-true formula as opposed to a game that shakes things up (ie. trading constant gunplay for parkour with occasional shooting). That's why games like Battlefield and CoD can easily sell multimillions of copies while games like Mirror's Edge (which is still -technically- a shooter; frantic running is the name of the game, but you can shoot the shit out of everyone on your way to the end of each level) are lucky to have over a million sales entirely.

And also Mirror's Edge 2 was confirmed for release anyway, so there's still some light for the FP genre.

it's much deeper than that
first you have to account for brand recognition and how popular the fps genre has become

like
this shit is long winded
it can go from "how it's cool to be up on the latest edge of technology" to "how games have been made marketable due to pushing a broader audience" or "copy another's idea while capitalizing on simple mistakes they made"

there's a lot more to it, but it's best to remember that both good and bad fps games have ended up flopping

As a FPS fan, i'm only looking forward to three coming out this year.

Wolfenstein: The New Order
Nazis have taken over the world, set in an altered 1960's giving it an exploitation film feel to it. The robots are even animated like stop-motion.
After watching the gameplay videos, i really enjoy that it's more like classic FPS's.

Rise of the Triad Reboot
Remaking this old gem is welcome, since the dev team know what they're doing. Looks fantastic.
Seeing the new Apogee logo really brings in the nostalgia.

Shadow Warrior Reboot
Okay, this one surprised me. From the creators of Hard Reset, even though i've never seen that game.
They're sprucing up the swordfighing which didn't have much in the original. Some interesting enemies such as yakuza goons, spirits, and demonic creatures.
Hopefully they don't go too far with the political correctness. That is what's worrying most fans of the original.

As for the Xbox one, i'm skipping on getting it. Just reading about it is making me more annoyed at Microsoft's stupidity.
I already have a Wii U (and will get some of the announced games) i'm also preordering the PS4 over this. Despite being $550 AUD.

Absolutely disgusting. But at least it's not as bad as the PS3 costing one thousand dollars at launch. I actually have a cousin who moved to Australia and according to him this kind of thing is rather common.

Truly, being an Australian gamer is suffering.

Go to Google and type "the xbox one is" and let it give you some autofill choices.
Now go to Bing and do the same thing.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha.

Xbox One is now officially a plane crashing into a train crashing into a traffic jam in slow motion!

Looks like it's official.

Still not buying it.

The idea that they originally thought these were good ideas (and clearly still do) is reason enough for me not to support this thing in any way.

Quote:We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future.

See, they clearly still want people to connect to the Internet all the time, and in fact you still do at least once.

Quote:After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again.

So if you don't have an Internet connection, you're still out of luck unless you have a friend willing to let you use theirs to set up your stupid game playing system, or you're willing to pay extra for a single month of Internet which includes installation and hardware costs. This should not be a standard practice. At all. It was already pretty bullshit with the Wii U having an hour-long update on day one.

And the fact that it's still $500. While technically being not as powerful graphically or as fast as a PS4 which is $400. (Source. Another source, even biased towards Microsoft.) And has no exclusives I'm interested in. And still requires a Kinect.

This thing isn't worth buying. Ever.

I was hoping they'd continue being stupid and release it as-is.

What, I'm not the only one who loves to see them crash and burn?
