secretly we all are Adam on the inside.
animators I de-authorize the use of smears Thanked by: Crappy Blue Luigi, SchAlternate
Hate to keep bringing Tropical Freeze back into this but I noticed similar things in that game that Gors is presenting in his post. Donkey Kong's limbs stretch and grow like rubber when he jumps. When he rolls, his body parts smoosh together so he takes a more circular shape.
However, once again, Tropical Freeze does visuals better than Smash. When these body distorting animations happen there are these smear-like effects, like Omega mentioned, that make them seem more natural instead of just seeing the weird twisting of limbs plainly as they are.

Mike Jones from Star Tropics Pulseman from Pulseman (technically a Genesis game but it's Game Freak property AND on Virtual Console) Boy & Blob Team from A Boy And His Blob Strider from Strider ... oh wait we already have him. I've had complete movesets ready for these three for a while; actually intended to make some sprites for them but never got around to it. Thanked by: Crappy Blue Luigi

Good luck noticing anatomy inaccuracies in a centisecond-long animation while playing SSB4 in 60fps then Thanked by: Kosheh, alexmach1, SchAlternate, Rosencrantz, psychospacecow, Gwen, recme, Bigfoot, Iceman404
Still doesn't change the fact that Tropical Freeze is a much more visually impressive game.
Also I believe you're forgetting one of Smash Bros. more famous features. Taking Snapshots. Yeah, in this game it's very common to pause the action and take a picture. With that in mind, yeah, people ARE going to notice. A lot. (04-26-2014, 05:35 AM)Koopaul Wrote: Still doesn't change the fact that Tropical Freeze is a much more visually impressive game. "Donkey Kong looks sillier in Smash so clearly Tropical Freeze has better visuals. Nevermind the impressively unprecedented mix of graphical styles Smash offers that DOESN'T look awkward like PlayStation All-Stars. Nevermind this Substitute which looks like a hi-res HD photo: --Which still doesn't look awkward next to clearly cartoony characters, by the by. Nah, it's all playing second fiddle to these enemies ripped straight out of Dreamworks or Blue Sky films." Seriously dude. I guarantee that if Tropical Freeze had a snapshot option like Smash did, people would be finding all kinds of graphical "flaws". Thanked by: alexmach1, SchAlternate, psychospacecow, Gwen

Can we please stop arguing over animation and graphics, and get back to discussing other things about SSB4?
Thank you. Thanked by: Sevenstitch, SchAlternate, alexmach1, psychospacecow, recme

To be fair, Mystie, the conversation IS about Smash 4's animation and graphics, but it's really a moot point on the animation and weird breaking anatomy points when so many other good game (even within this same series) are guilty of the same thing.
Also, isn't it weird to criticize a fictional video game that already defies real world physics, let alone contains characters that have warped anatomy and bizarre proportions in the first place?
The only part that I would say Tropical Freeze has the upperhand visually over Smash is the fur. But IIRC, the reason Tropical Freeze is more visually appealing is because of the fact it uses particle effects for the fur, compared to Smash using polygons. Kinda comparing apples to oranges here

Kinda comparing apples to oranges here Just going to clear this up, in games particle effects are never used for fur. DK Tropical Freeze uses the same method as smash, as well as polygons on the edges of the fur to blend the effect better. It looks better in Freeze because DK is the main character model, and thus appears on the screen most of the time; artists have to give it the most attention and detail, whereas in Smash Bros there is no real main character model, so they each receive an equal amount of detail(albeit lower than Tropical Freeze due to the amount of objects onscreen at a time) For clarification, this method is highly used across many games. Here's a good video explaining the effect. Polygon layers are stacked on top of eachother at different distances, then given a transparent layer texture to emulate individual hairs while saving on polygon count. The effect becomes most visible at closer views, as the polygon layers are visible near the hands in this screenshot: For further clarification, Smash Bros 4 uses around 3-5 layers for the fur on all characters whereas DK from Tropical Freeze has about 6-10. So, anyone else think it'd be cool to get a grass starter on the roster?
Not really. There's enough Pokemon as is, and if/when Jigglypuff returns, that's just going to be even more of a cluster fuck. I love Greninja, but make some space for other franchises now. Pokemon has more than enough representation.
I think it'd be totally outta left field and radular if Bayonetta got in. I mean her next game is a Wii U exclusive after all (and it comes out around the same time as Super Smash Bros for Wii U.)

As much as I love Bayonetta, and as much as I'd love to see her in SSB4, it's highly unlikely that she'll be added, due to Kamiya saying on Twitter to stop requesting her for SSB4.

Eh, I don't pay attention to that stuff, I'm just chipping in on who I think might be neato burrito.
