New GIMP-freak in da place !
#1
Hello everyone !

I've heard about this site while searching sprites and viewing fan made sprite anims on Youtube.

I'm new to spriting but not new to GFX in general. I use GIMP since 2006 and I used to mainy make design elements for websites. And today, I just finished the first version of my first sprites that I'm going to show in the appropriate section.

A lil' bit of myself now : My first name is Caroline and I'm 30 years old. I live in a remote area in Canada, more precisely in the Province of Quebec, and I'm a French speaker, so excuse me if my English isn't quite perfect.
Last fall, I finished studies in cooking and now I work in the ready-to-serve department of an IGA supermarket for two months.

I'm a Linux user since 2008 (gosh, I remember the first time I installed Ubuntu on my PC, I was friggin' nervous ! XD) and I recently upgraded to Lubuntu 14.04 LTS. Seriously, I REALLY don't miss Windows !

I'm also a retrogamer. I grew up with NES and SNES. I'm a fan of the Final Fantasy serie (4 and 6 are my favs) and of RPGs in general. And i'm also a BIG fan of Yoshi since childhood. I used to draw the green dude a lot when I was a child ! Unfortunately, I suck in platforming game (I'm too perfectionist) so in the Yoshi games, I mostly played the puzzle games.

I also like listening to J-pop, power metal and videogame OST (mostly FF/Chrono series) and reading heroic fantasy.

And a last detail : I'm a cat lover and I can't live without one so I plan to adopt one in a shelter when I'll have my own apartment.

That's all for now.

Now I'm going to post my first sprite sheet in the appropriate section.

See ya !

Welcome to VGR!
Linux users are pretty rare here, but you use Lubuntu so at least you have good taste. I primarily use Windows but I have several older computers that run Lubuntu and I personally think it's much better than vanilla Ubuntu and Unity.

I really REALLY dislike Gimp and went as far as installing Wine just so I could run MS Paint and Photoshop but whatever works for you, ahaha

Sorry for the delay. Yesterday (Sunday), I had a busy day and a migraine, and I had to work today. So, no I wasn't upset after your post in my other topic. Smile

Thanks Vipershark.
I still have an old Pentium 4 that's still functional, and until recently, I had both Linux and Windows XP. And since XP isn't maintained anymore, I wiped it out when I leapt from Xubuntu 12.04 to Lubuntu 14.04.
By the way, regarding GIMP, for your information, there's now a built-in Single Window Mode option since 2.8 and we can now group layers.

Hello and welcome! You're English is definitely fine so no worries there! Smile

I'll have to try out Lububtu at some point. I had a secondary computer running Ubuntu for a while but I wasn't fond of the more recent updates so I haven't done anything with desktop Linux in a while.

But I can't get over this irony so I had to quote it I'm really sorry buddy aaaaaaa

That said I have an old Celeron M running Windows 8.1 - I'm wondering maybe I should jump the bandwagon and covert that over to Lubuntu as well...

Haha, auto-correct is wonderful until it isn't... I'm not even going to fix that. The irony is just too wonderful.

I feel for you, Petie. My computer has autocorrect, too, so it leads to several typos that make it into my messages, which leads me to hitting the edit post button frequently.

That said, though, welcome aboard to the VG Resource, Ishimaru Chiaki! I've been watching you and I am pleased to say that you have the potential to be a respected user here!

it's ok to suck, sucking is not bad, just try and aim to always do your best!

Thanks everyone !

Ah yeah autocowreck lol ! Mom has it on her iPad and I often hear her cursing it when she tries to type something. She doesn't know (and me either) if this can be disabled and how (I don't use Apple products).

I can, in Settings > General > Keyboard but I wouldn't recommend it. For every silly mistake that autocorrect causes, it saves you from a thousand more. I'm fairly certain I miss at least half of the letters I mean to press when sending a text on my iPhone but it almost always manages to figure out what I meant and fix it for me. I'm willing to put up with a few mistakes here and there for that level of accuracy.
