Wish people would quit forcing Nintendo to shoehorn a subpar controller into each new console. There's nothing wrong with the game pad, or the pro controller and wiimotes are okay
I love you all to death (Just so I can smash bros with you) (SSBWiiU/3DS)

The Wii Classic Controller Pro is indeed good for Brawl, but the GC controller just plays better for me.
I am content with using the Wii Pro Controllers, I in fact got a bunch for when it comes out (also MK8). If I can use a controller that plays like a GC controller, it's only better. Thanked by: Kriven

Gamecube controller is good.
But it's old as fuck and it's kinda retarded to always bring it up, honestly. EH, that's my opinion, maybe I'm worrying too much over a really small thing seeing that it's just for this game but :/ Thanked by: Gwen

Nintendo's probably just seeing that there's a measurable demand for this sort of thing, and IMO it'd be a missed opportunity if they didn't take it. (Besides, it might turn out to be that PDP's gonna be the "brains" behind this controller, but with Nintendo really only licensing the use of character imagery, sorta like all those licensed fightpads for the 360/PS3 with images of various fighting games plastered on them, especially Street Fighter IV.) Here are some reasons some people prefer the GCN controller over the Wii(U) controllers for Smash Bros: -the Z-button placement on both of the Classic Controllers and Pro Controller is awkward (doubly so for the Gamepad, since going from the L/R buttons to the Z buttons requires shifting the entire finger) -The Gamepad and Pro Controllers don't have "guided" control stick restrictor gates unlike the GCN, Classic Controllers, and the Nunchuck (making smash attacks and control-stick jumping unnecessarily more precision-based due to less definite direction placement of the joystick) -The face button shaping, sizing, and placement on the GCN feels more natural for some, alongside the placement of the joysticks (especially for big-handed folks) -the handles of the GCN feel more natural and comfortable for some than the Classic Controller Pro/Pro Controller/Gamepad (again, particularly for big-handed people) -The Wiimote (solo) is inherently limited by its lack of buttons compared to all the other GCN/Wii(U) controllers and absence of analog movement -...I can't actually speak for the Wiimote+Nunchuck, since I've not tried it myself nor have talked to many others who do. Sorry. You don't like the GCN controller, fine. That doesn't make it inherently subpar (nor do most of the reasons above for the Wii[U] controllers). I'm at least curious to see what they mean by "a shape inspired by the original Nintendo Gamecube Controller". Mainly, I'm hoping it doesn't deviate massively from the original GCN formfactor. yeah, it's more accessibility if you think about it, and if Nintendo itself is doing it, it's ok
however it feels kinda weird to always play it the same. I would love playing this game with other controllers. Thanked by: Crappy Blue Luigi, Tellis

The difference between the Xbox, 360, and Xbone is much less drastic than GameCube, Wii Classic, Pro. Same goes with Playstation Thanked by: Mystie, SchAlternate

I was honestly looking forward to people learning the controls all over again. At least for a while, it would make everyone starting out have an equal footing.

What annoys me is that it seems like nobody even wants to give Nintendo's new controllers a chance. I don't see how you could possibly have any problems with the gamepad, it's bloody brilliant in it's design, and the pro controllers are ace as well. People who don't seem to like them seem to not be willing to take ten minutes to get used to a different styled controller in my experiences. And if you own or play Microsoft consoles as well then they're even better because it takes no adjusting almost from one to the other.
I also personally find the button placement not that great on the gamecube controller. The controller shape is fine, but I don't get what gets everybody frothing over it.

I actually love the gamepad. Like... a lot. More than any other controller almost.

The Wii Classic controllers and the Wii Pro feel cramped. If there wasn't something like the GameCube controller for Wii U, I'd be stuck using the Gamepad which is 1: A bit unwieldy to take to a buddy's house. You can always use your buddy's, but some people just prefer using their own controller 2: Only one can be used at a time. If you have a buddy who has overly large hands too, y'all are taking turns. Competetive play would be fucked if more than one person wanted to use it in a match as well, risking the chance of the controller be banned 3: I don't know if the Gamepad will be a usuable controller for Smash. It could just be used as an accessory or something and not a fully fledged controller. I COULD BE WRONG ON THIS ONE AND FORGOTTEN THAT THE GAMEPAD WAS CONFIRMED, and yes I know that there's still a good chance that it could be used as a controller anyways

I've said this before: I hope that the Gamepad has an option that allows a fourth or fifth player to play as boss characters against other players. The touch screen could be used to designate where you want attacks to be focused, not really being controlled like a traditional player obviously, but directing boss attacks.
