Personally, I'd love it if they switched up which returning characters were unlockable again. For example, I'd love if they kept Meta Knight hidden after making a number of changes to him and then surprised players with him as an unlockable. Or Lucas unlockable instead of Ness, for example.

I like to be surprised, and so far the reveals of characters have been surprising, more or less.

^^ I feel that way about Wario. He just feels like he should be unlockable for whatever reason. He's got that "hidden character" aura to him.

Wario? Not really. Not to me. Maybe because is see him as his own franchise rather than a Mario character.

G&W, ROB, Sonic, and Mega Man from your own list also have their own franchises.

Hidden characters from past games that were the only representatives of their franchise:

Captain Falcon (64/Brawl)
Ness (64)
Marth/Roy [Since both had to be unlocked] (Melee)
Snake (Brawl)

I didn't include the ones you have on your list.
But my point is, representing a franchise doesn't mean all that much for hidden/not hidden. Besides that, Wario is still in the "Mario Spin-Offs" column, designating his association as part of the larger Super Mario franchise.

I miss playing as him. I honestly don't care if there are 6 reps to pokemon at this point to be honest.

I just hate that two characters that are pretty oriniginal compared to the rest of the cast are getting bumped, whilst there are characters confirmed (or are a nobrainer) that are similar on design/move set
