HD Super Metroid Samus Sprite

Thanks, but it's not just the size that's causing problems for me making things go slow, it's my inexperience. i had to stop my other project because it was just too much to think about all at once, and the sprite kept getting further and further away from the style i wanted, and nothing i did seemed to make things be read correctly. Like his hip; my friend insisted there be more pixels on it, and even starsock made him fatter. Having so many issues with that one when i had probably 80 more to do really detrimented my determination.

Anyways, what do people think about the edits i have for Samus here for her visor and shadow..?

I think there's a bit too much shadow. It shouldn't be so dark, and there are shadows coming from both sides now.

mhn...yeah, when i started the shoulder i added shadow where there shouldn't have been, but it made it look good at the time..now all the shadow under her arm is a little much, where the shadow was originally at..

I'm honestly not sure where the light was coming from on the original sprite; from the shoulder it looked like it was coming from the upper right, but on her leg it looks like it's coming straight from in between the viewer and her.

Though, i do want her darkish, the atmosphere in super metroid was dark and i don't want her too bright.

Eh, it might be okay if you want to make the sprite darker than the original, but maybe the shadow should reduced for the sake of simplicity/readability. You could also just wait with changing shading/palette until after you've completed the sprite.

[Image: elLJlwu.png] some quick edits to make the lighting make a little more sense. the red chest area needs some tweaking still. I am making her more the orange shade, i think the only reason there was a lot of the lightest shade on the original was because she wouldn't stand out as much..i dunno. but i don't want her that color as the majority color. o-o

I'm curious as to how far you plan on taking this. I've seen some incredible HD versions of areas from Super Metroid. I know a remake of that game that kept all the veteran tricks like bomb jump and mach ball would be every retro gamer's wet dream.

really? i know i've seen a pic of the Ridley fight, but that's it, and that was pretty cool. but i don't plan on making more than this one, really. i thought it'd be nice to do at least the running animation, but i'm too green for that.

[Image: xGUxRrU.png] so i was curious as who agrees or disagrees with less light in in the sprite i'm making vs. the original and why. Paladin seemed to want her a little brighter, so i though i'd ask others what they thought too

gotta get the fine details on the right leg and fill in the left. interesting thing, the left looks fatter than the right, though they were actually the same pixels across the calves. O-o i need to also make the under arm part now that it isn't all shadowed over.

[Image: UiQbyge.png] i thought i'd put this here since i deleted the other thread. just me working on his colors. i tried using samus's colors as a template to how different the shades should be.

I tried a little edit with the shading on the Blastermaster guy, colors look good, but I think you'd do better adding more shadow and lighting on the helmet.

I edited the back leg because it seemed a little thin too.

It looks like Samus' knee is really thin, like under her armor, she has noodle legs. might wanna make the joint a big bigger.

And nice work on the Jason sprite. the new contrast is a huge improvement... JASON!
