Games That Deserve Sequels or HD Updates/Remakes
#16
Bushido Blade 3 would be nice to see. I loved the games on the Playstation. Katz is a jerk though, and anyone who picks him deserves to step on a LEGO. I'd also really like to see more Goemon games, the GBA one left a bad taste in my mouth and the series has been dormant (basically) since 2005.

I agree with dolphman, more Jazz Jackrabbit is needed. I'd love to see a new sidescrolling Jazz game with HD graphics.

Mega Man Legends
-Last Blade series
-Fatal Fury series (I'd be down either for something based off the older games or Garou; there was even a planned sequel for the latter)
-Art of Fighting series (preferably with more returning characters than just Ryo and Robert)
-Shenmue series (I'm surprised this hasn't come up yet)
-Mr. Gimmick/Gimmick! (though I'd insist on the music being Famicom-styled, and also have a fuckton more levels than seven)

Honestly, I'd want a sequel to Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion. The developer's hearts were in the right place, and you can feel that they were really trying to turn the game into something good instead of just a media tie-in, but it feels like the budget just wasn't there... Which is a shame, because it absolutely has potential, and I'd like to see them get another shot at it. Most of these other Smasher type games just aren't good, but this one of the ones I've played stands out as the one that was almost there. Don't get me wrong: what they ended up publishing is pretty awful. It feels like it almost wasn't, though, and I'd like them to get another chance to prove that.

And maybe include Tom from Toonami as a character...

What's the matter with those two getting the sequel they actually deserve? :/

Anyway, barring any Nintendo and Rare games, I would say that there should be a good sequel to the Pac-Man World games. I loved Pac-Man World 2 and the DS post of Pac-Man World 3 left a bad taste in my mouth (footage of the other versions looks promising, though). I know that the games based on Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures are a bit like them, but I want to see the return of Pac-Dot chains and the Rev-Roll.

E-Man reminded me of an old gaming icon who hasn't seen any action in, like, twenty years:

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Puggsy. Part of the reason is because the developers literally stated "look out for Puggsy Part 2" in the credits. If they hadn't said that I probably wouldn't be quite as obsessed about needing a sequel. But regardless of that, it is a very cool game and I'd just love to see more of it. It's really unlikely that Traveller's Tales will bother though (they're way too busy with Lego Batman 6), so I might have to make a fan sequel myself.

I've also previously mentioned that Tomba!/Tombi! needs a good sequel. I didn't play much of Tomba! 2 because it was just such a disappointment, so much charm was gone (he has a sidekick that talks for him) and they made it full 3D which greatly degraded the visual quality (while its art style was one of the things that made the original so awesome).

It would also be nice to see a new World of Goo, the first one was great and although it's very easy to mod (and there are literally hundreds of user-made levels out there) I would love to see new mechanics and more official storyline by 2D Boy.

This would be great to see. I've never even finished the campaign of any of them, but I really enjoy both 2 and 3 just as an occasional RTS fix. I'd love to see what Blizzard can do with the series after a whole decade.

I strongly agree with this. Psychonauts is amazingly fun and entertaining and it's one game that absolutely deserves a sequel.

I would love to see a Dark Cloud 3

The way Dark Cloud 1 and 2 actually interconnected together was really great, the stories had nothing to do with one another, but they had some of the same characters and both games are great as stand alone titles. I would like to see a 3rd thats like that but isn't white knight chronicles.

I didn't realize Birdo was a Q*Bert character...

Well, five dollars is in my impulse "try it out" range, so I'll grab it and let you know if it's awful. Eventually (Hyrule Warriors DLC, Smash Wii U, and Captain Toad are eating my budget for a bit, though).

Excuse me for ignoring your no-Nintendo clause, but I had intended to talk about some of these before you even made the suggestion.

Super Metroid

I'll be honest and shamefully admit that I actually hadn't played Super Metroid for the first time until just this past January. But I got to say, even with it being an older game and it having an inferior control scheme to the GBA Metroids, I still found this game to be incredibly fantastic. The feeling of isolation, the telling a story through environment rather than cutscenes or text, the way the game teaches you its mechanics, and the designs of the aliens all added up to an incredible sense of adventure and discovery. And I want more.

Okay okay, so I can already hear people pointing out that Super Metroid already has sequels. Even if you are someone who chooses to completely ignore the existence of Other M, there also exists a direct Super Metroid sequel in Metroid Fusion. But even though Fusion was a fantastic game in its own right and one of my favorite GBA titles, neither it nor Other M really captures the same game feel that Super Metroid presents us. The need to communicate with other characters removes us from the feeling of loneliness and isolation, and being handed objectives subtracts from the feeling and satisfaction of discovery. Plus the freedom of exploration feels stilted when Adam literally seals us off from revisiting certain parts of the ship in order to keep us on task. Plus let's face it, even if you are one of the few that can look past the story related flaws of Other M, the game's enemies had a really cartoony look to them and really didn't feel right in Metroid's usually Geiger-inspired creature lineup, which ruined a lot of the aesthetic to me.

Actually, this alone is why I wanted to make this topic. Or more specifically, Smash Bros 3DS is the reason. If there's one thing that the Smash Run mode has made me realize, it's that Metroid would work really well as a 3D sidescroller (or 2.5D or whatever you prefer to call it). I think that the 3DS would be the perfect platform to pull this off and could easily get the same aesthetic feel that Super Metroid had to it. And yes I'm aware that Other M already tried to pull this off, but they kind of missed the mark with it. There's a lot more to the feel of the game than just viewing it from the side.

Also it doesn't necessarily have to be a direct sequel to the SNES game specifically, I would also be open to a game taking place after Fusion, or a pseudo-remake of Metroid II. I only mention Super Metroid specifically because it's the game I most want them to emulate.

So how unlikely is it?

Weeeeell ... it depends on if they actually learned any lessons from the Other M fiasco. My understanding about Other M is that it was designed to make the franchise appeal more to the Japanese market, as it's always been much more popular in the West than in the native home of its creators. And while die-hard Japanese Metroid fans were also critical of the game, it overall did get a much higher rating and acceptance in their country than it did in the West. So the question then is, do the game designers even think there's a need to change it from the Other M design? Did they learn anything at all? Do our opinions mean anything at all, or are they just going to pay attention to the opinions of their home market?

Super Mario Bros 2 (USA)

Okay this one is just self indulgent and clearly would never happen in a billion years, but as long as I'm fantasizing I just wanted to throw this one out there. Super Mario Bros 2 is one of my favorite NES games of all time, and even though I love both Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World, SMB2 will always be my favorite Mario sidescroller of all time. My one issue with the game is that there really wasn't enough of it; I've always fantasized about Nintendo creating a sequel with the same game mechanics and world aesthetics ever since I was a little kid. It's a bit late for this wish to ever come true at this point and it probably wouldn't be what I wanted even if they did create it, but good god it would be glorious to return to those 8-bit Subcon days in a new adventure. Nostalgia, you've got me by the horns on this one.

Psychonauts is actually very likely to get a sequel relatively soon. The creators of the game have stated that they're planning on looking into funding options for it as soon as they are completed with their current big project. I imagine this will consist at least partially of Kickstarter funds once again.

Dang, RTB just reminded me. The one game I've always wanted a sequel to but for some reason didn't think of mentioning it earlier even though I carry on about it like an idiot at times: Kirby Air Ride. That game desperately needs a sequel, heck I'd even settle for a remake on the 3DS.

STRONGLY AGREE. I was actually going to mention that one and forgot. But yes, I would settle for a re-release of the game on one of the new consoles, even if it was just a Virtual Console release on the Wii U ... but if they did that it would have to have online support, which does not tend to be the case with Virtual Console games. I really would prefer a full re-release though complete with some extra courses, because that game's one failing was that it was lacking in number of tracks to race on.
