Looks like a little ball of lightning. Seems appropriate, since Luigi uses lightning, so Crappy could use a lightning yoyo. ^^

It could just be me, but some of these sprites have a very "Scott Pilgrim" feel to them. Which is in no way a bad thing, as that was an excellent beat 'em up as well.

I look forward to seeing more from this project. Keep up the good work, everyone! Big Grin

update time!

first off, the creator of gatsby the crab has left my life as well as this project, so gatsby won't be a playable character anymore, or otherwise featured in this game or my other projects. as such, if you have the support button for bmup in your signature, i humbly request that you replace it with this one with gatsby's spot taken by spiny.

alright, with that out of the way, let's get to the good stuff.

we have a new addition to the roster! ... at the cost of an existing character. virt dropped his human self-insert for trollerskates to add more diversity to the character selection. this isn't much of a loss, since virt hadn't developed his character within the game's mechanics yet, so all that was cut was one sprite. virt also made portraits for trollerskates, which you can find here.

aki's sprite was given a minor makeover by me on a spur of the moment. i did it to make her sprite better match the way she draws herself--examples here and here. i sent it to her earlier and she animated it like so:

pretty good for someone who only started working with pixels a couple of months ago!
i simplified her frames and messed with the arm motion, fixing shape consistency errors in the process.

she liked my edit, so this might be her final idle unless she has some changes she wants to make or she wants to try editing her original animation herself with this as a reference.

every character has four "variations"--default costume, default palette; alternate costume, default palette; default costume, alternate palette; and alternate costume, alternate palette. in the case of crappy, he appears as both blue crapsman and crappy blue luigi. i'm slowly working on editing crappy's existing animations into his alternate costume:

dev's sprite has seen a minor change in order to make this little-mac-inspired alternate palette work.

that design's actually directly taken from old bmup. that game was going to have alternate costumes, too, and gsgal's was the same. it was based on her concept art of a merge between gsgal and the sentient balloon she carries around with her for some reason, patricia.

any resemblance to frilly plant people is coincidence. Tongue

i updated his run special animation!

there are a couple of minor tweaks to crappy's movement, but the biggest change is in the yo-yo. recently, i started to feel like the effect i had on it before--glowing, sparking, whatever--felt out-of-place with the rest of the attack animations. to make it more consistent with the details of other attacks, i made it grow in size, much like crappy's fists and feet do in most of his attacks. i think it really sticks out better this way. it also makes it possible to tell that the icon on the yo-yo is a star, heheh

i also did THIS'A THING

crappy's back throw attack! it's a slam, based on one of axel stone's moves in streets of rage 2/3:

i had mit make hurt and k.o.'d sprites so i could animate this properly without beating on spiny any more. he's a good sport, that mit.

hello, not-crappy here with a tiny little SPRITE UPDATE

mit's various hit frames, and the KO animation. as of now, there are 2 different frames for minor damage, and 2 different frames for major damage.

and the last thing mit-related, mit's alt isn't a costume like the other fighters- it's actually a separate character, anne! they'll share the same general movements and stats, so it's more of a skin than anything.
