TSR's Super Smash Bros Thread|SWITCH HYPE TRAIN NOW BOARDING
A lot of characters have issues like that, sadly.

Samus is one obvious example. Her neutral B move doesn't really represent any beams from the games and is just a generic energy projectile.
Beside that, I find it insulting that they didn't make use of the ice, wave or plasma beams for her alternate moves. Surely someone on the team must have played at least one of her games? The fact that Samus can bomb-jump in smash means at least someone understood her abilities to some degree. Her final smash being a generic huge beam blast is also problematic. She has at least two endgame death beams that would have been perfect for a final smash but again this potential is ignored.

Some more variety for certain characters would be nice too. Imagine how badass it would be if Toon Link had the skull hammer as his down-smash.

And of course there's Falco's landmaster as Koopaul mentioned. Why is this still a thing? It's as though Sakurai doesn't even care about the character.

Its funny because Nintendo can be really anal about how their characters are portrayed. They made sure Bowser was holding his cup right in Wreck-It Ralph. They made sure DK was hand slapping the ground right in DKCR. (Not bum-bum-bum. It's ba-dum ba-dum ba-dum.) But in Smash? DK is slapping the ground the way Miyamoto complained about during the development of Returns. Where was he then?

Not only that, but the initial concept for The Wonderful 101 was said to be canned due to Nintendo being presented a concept art of Mario using a set of Toads as a bridge, but yet...they seem to be fine with Peach using Toad as a shield in SSB, and Toad being hospitalized in the Mario Kart Super Circuit commercial (no, seriously, watch for yourself).

Didn't you know?  Using Toads as a bridge is dehumanizing to them.  Using Toads as a staircase, however, is absolutely fine.

Also, this issue of "characters doing what they don't actually do in their games" has been present ever since the N64 title.  See: Luigi being able to rocket himself like a missile, DK being able to spin in the air like a helicopter, Ness using PK Thunder and PK Fire, Fox using guns (at the time, anyway), Yoshi being able to trap himself inside an egg and roll around, Mario throwing fireballs without a Fire Flower, Pikachu and Jigglypuff kicking and punching, Link jumping period, and pretty much everything about Falcon's existence in the game, right down to not being in a car.

If we keep dissecting Smash Bros's versions of the Nintendo cast like this, we'll be here all day.

This is from Yoshi's Story, actually.

Well the point still is that capturing a character "accurately" is not something important in Smash. Sakurai acting like it is or that he does do a good job capturing these characters accurately is bullshit. Unfortunately he says these lies all the time in interviews.

A Smash fan will eat his lies up and praise him. But a Nintendo fan knows better.

Maybe if Sakurai said something like: "I work as hard as I can. I'm only human and I can't do everything perfect." Then I could understand him better.

Hey, I've seen a lot of competetive Smash fans that are the same way. For some reason, the think that For Glory Mode means that Sakurai gives a shit about the competetive scene

Lol no, it's only there because he was tired of everyone only playing on FD online. I feel like the people who think Sakurai cares about comp. Smash forgot that Brawl was a thing.

I can sum up my opinion of most of the posts in the past few pages with these statements:

Not Factual Information: Sakurai does the things that you hate about Smash just to spite you or anyone else personally.

Very Factual Information: It is very much impossible to please everyone / foresee the consequences of everything.

Having a patchable game does help a lot, though.

<rebuttal>

Ooooooh, I feel foolish. Excuse me while I wash this egg off my face.

btw, I was joking about the really nitpicky stuff like "Link doesn't jump" and I'm totally not just saying that because Zelda II was on the back of my mind and Iceman royally shut me down with that post of his.

Now that I think about it, he's actually true to his word for some of these characters.  Mr. Game & Watch, the third-party trio (especially Mega Man; look at all those custom specials), Olimar, Little Mac, Bowser Jr., and Duck Hunt come to mind.  I'm sure there's more.

Is it just me, or is Nintendo getting a little sloppy with their games ever since patching and DLC became a big thing for them?

DLC has become a big thing with them? I didn't realize a few games having DLC made them a DLC focused company.
I wouldn't say they're getting sloppy at all, like Tomguycott said, you can't please everyone.

When I said that DLC has become a big thing for Nintendo, I should have just said that it started when Nintendo incorporated DLC into their recent games. When the other consoles were selling bits of DLC everywhere last generation, Nintendo wasn't really part of the action. Having them finally experiment with DLC at this point is pretty big for Nintendo's standards, which is what I meant to say.

As for the sloppy thing, I was more or less going by this post from Zero Kirby.

Zero Kirby Wrote:It's obvious what we got was rushed out the door pretty quickly. Even the 3DS version has some oddities that made me raise an eyebrow. (Done making a custom character? Want to customize someone else? Back to the main menu for you! Oh and Smash Run Powers can only be edited in the Smash Run menu because fuck you that's why)

But yeah there's an astonishing lack of options. Brawl has a Tournament and a Rotation mode right out of the starting gate, this doesn't unless I'm missing something. Only being able to save snapshots onto an SD card? Really? Not being able to trade or edit characters from the 3DS that you've made, even to just fine-tune them a little bit…

I could be wrong about this, but I have a hunch that Nintendo is starting to have a few more oddities slip by because they might be changing their mentality to a "we'll fix that one in the next update" one.

Eh, I don't think that's happening.

So far, they've been patching games to fix and add things that are relatively minor.
