Final Fantasy VI IOS (More) Image ripping
#1
I was reading through the work of Oscar92player and puggsoy and they've found ways to rip almost all the graphics from Final Fantasy VI IOS, but they haven't discussed how to rip the tileset files. I believe the tilesets are archived in .tmb files, but I cannot figure out how to access the archives and I'm useless at figuring out how to use TextureFinder.

I've uploaded a sample tmb file here. If anyone could help that'd be amazing.

Thanks,

Frago

Hmm. Looks uncompressed, but that's about all I can make of it at the moment. If could you upload a couple more that might help, comparing files is always good.

Thanks for the reply.

I've uploaded the entire directory here. It also contains png files that may relate to the tmb files.

Thanks again!

I think the tmb is just map data, as in programing that is used to build the various locations in-game. They all have...
Code:
xsi scene root object
... in the coding and they have reference different pngs.

I noticed none of what's been ripped already has been put on the site. Is identification help needed? Some of them can be separated from the folders into single character sheets. For example, in the Map Sprites subfolder, the characters have both their battle sprites and general overworld sprites in one sheet.

You know something? I think those files are the assets for the world map 3D models used for towns. Take a look at this picture. It's the castle figaro and it uses the same texture as the file Figaro1.png that was included in the same directory.

Okay, I guess the hunt will have to turn to a different location!

In another folder called "Events" I found tilesets for the town, caves, military camp, and doma. Also, in a directory named "Screen," what appears to be parallax maps for the mountains and Kekfa's tower. I'm thinking the Events are specifically for cut-scenes, hence why it's lacking town interior, figaro, narshe, WoB towns, etc. The question remains where the bulk of the tilesets are stored, though.

I've included the Event and Screen folder in a new download (17mb).

... Bah, the only other directory I can find that references maps is filled with about 400 .bin files. The only 2 that seem to easily be open via 7zip is map003 and map007. The file inside just appears to be an extensionless file that's definitely not bmp or png. For those interested in giving this a crack here the 68mb file.

Those 400 bin files can be opened with TiledGGD, they're actual graphic data with various palettes within as opposed to bmp/pngs.

Great job guys, I also figured that those files are models of some sort.

I'll check out the bins, if they're viewable with TileGDD then I can maybe make a program to spew out all the graphics in one go. If you could tell me the settings and palette offset that'd help.

I can give you the settings but the offsets are gonna be a problem, there is no standard offset except for one right at 0x0 and there are multiple offsets within the files.

Relevant Settings
Graphics Data
Panel Size: 512x?? (they might all be 512)
Format: 8bits/pixel
Mode: Linear

Palette Data:
Mode: 4bytes/colour

Ah, thanks. It's not giving very fruitful-looking results though, I checked out a couple and they look like a bit of a jumble of random graphics. Might be due to the palette not being correct though.

You're probably right about every file having a width of 512, I can't find any dimensional data so that'll just be how the files are read. They look pretty informationless in general, can't find any header-y stuff other than the first 3 bytes seeming to consistently be 0x05.

If you have all the tilesets for the maps, that'd be awesome. We've already been able to rip the battle animations, character sets, menu graphics, portraits, and a couple of tilesets.
