Physical DLC Thread [Toys-To-Life. amiibo, etc.]

Not a One Piece fan, but damn that's awesome.

So I've seen words about amiibo cards floating around the webs. I prefer the figures, despite the potential price difference. However, it'd be a whole different deal if they included amiibo cards for the Pokemon characters in the TCG, similar to the e-Reader cards in Gen 3. Not sure if it's realistic, but that's one way I'd like to see amiibo incorporated in card form. Imagine a Pikachu Trading Card that acts as a Pikachu amiibo. Could also be something similar to the Kid Icarus AR cards. I'm not behind the idea of simply buying individual amiibo cards.

Do Yu-Gi-Oh! cards count? They have that little code that you enter to get the card in most of the games, albeit not recent ones as often. If that's the case, over $1000 worth of yugioh cards.

Now I imagine the Wii U gamepad as a prototype Duel Disc.

Imagine the amiibo cards working in a reboot of the Pokemon TCG game on the Game Boy, but it uses cutscenes for battle similar to how they look in the 3DS games.

So, today was...cool.  I have an amiibo story. :0)

so, I woke up at 5:45am, rolled out of bed and made my way to the local Target and I was the second person at the store (arrived around maybe 6Cute0). The first guy had been waiting in his car since 5am, and immediately booked it to the front of the store upon seeing me.
The first guy on line was pretty cool and we just talked the whole time.
A Target employee eventually came by, opened the door and asked "Are you two the amiibo people?" and since, yes, we were here for amiibo, we replied "yeah".
She told us "OK - let me get the product together in the back, and you guys can get started", leading us over to the electronics section talking along the way, which apparently must have been really corporate-sounding. She led us over to the amiibo section, and told us "I'll go to the back and get the Rosalie figures", and just left us there. We just stood there for about 10 minutes and continued talking, commenting on the sheer number of Zelda amiibo still on the shelf.

A manager came by, inquiring why we were standing around when we should be working. My new amiibro told her "Nope, we're just here for Rosalina".
She had no idea what he was talking about.
I simplified his confusing statement and told her, "We're just really enthusiastic Nintendo fans, waiting for the new figurine that's exclusive to your store. It's like a Skylander."

Apparently, our local Target thought we were the regional Nintendo reps coming to work on the amiibo display. But they were pretty shocked to find out we weren't, and immediately panicked and started radioing one another.

"Oh - okay! Well, I'm sorry you two, but I'm going to have to ask you both to leave, immediately." She led us back to the front, opened the door for us, and locked it. The other guy I was waiting with just looked at me and I looked back, and we just busted out laughing. What the fuck just happened.

The rest of it's pretty boring - after we were kicked out, another person came out of their car and waited with us, followed by two other cars. Every 15 minutes, another three cars pulled up. Every staple of line-sitters were there -
  • the creepy misogynist
  • the guy and his girlfriend (x2)
  • guy in sweatpants
  • Jimmy Scalper
  • douchebag who pulls up in sports car
  • dad with children
  • college kids
  • the super-duper Nintendo nerd who can name every Pokemon in Pokedex order but can't tie their own shoes
  • grown man whose mom dropped him off
everybody was there.

After the doors opened, everyone was pretty cool, but the goddamn dad can't put a leash on his children and soon enough, the entire first half of the line begins to jog. But then the college students run by me, and I'm like "seriously?!" to which then I get my trackstar on, and end up being the second guy on line. Again. In the electronics section.

I don't think I wanna do it again, but now I have a Rosalina and Toon Link amiibo. The staff kept referring to her as "Rosalie" which is probably just as good as "Pokeman".

tl;dr i bought a rosalina today to spite a guy who bought 100 rosalinas that is probably in a story on your facebook feed. it was alright.
are you guys still collecting these dumbass figurines?

You know, if I had the moneys, I'd have purchased 102 Rosalina amiibo, one for myself, one for my brother and the rest to give away to people who wanted it but couldn't because of a prick that purchased 100 Rosalina just to spite people, just to spite that person. As in, give away for free.

I'm mainly into them because I just like the way they look. In fact, I just ordered Bowser online because he was available again.

It's okay. He's only spent $4000 on amiibo and I don't think he's actually made any of it back yet.

His twitter was abslutely unbearable when all he did was brag about all the amiibos he was getting and talking about how much he's going to sell them for.  Now, he's pretty much the laughingstock of the Internet.

http://www.twitter.com/mariotehplumber (SFW? probably. but he's got super colorful language)

Oh by the way he bought another 100 figurines. It's getting just hilarious at this point (especially because now there's fanart of it)

Yeah. I can't get over how ridiculously high-quality they are. I'm highly tempted to get Bowser because Cinemarella only wants to collect the cool-looking ones, and Bowser's probably one of the coolest-looking I've seen yet (besides Villager, she also has Little Mac)

Part of me is a little perturbed that he's buying so many of something that I just want one or two of... but the majority of me just laughs at the fact he's shelling out thousands of dollars to sit on a mountain of plastic effigies of characters he hates just to spite people.

I also wouldn't mind hearing some sob story later down the line of him falling into serious financial trouble over his lousy investment, because judging solely by his twitter mannerisms, the guy sounds like a douchebag and a bigot.

The best part is that's actually going to happen.
The thing is that he used multiple people's credit cards (as in, other family members) in this case to purchase so many figurines. He's got about $35,000 to blow on this.
Keep in mind the guy's in his late teens/early young adult years, and still living with his parents (which is no big deal these days...but). That's basically his current savings; the money that would get a typical person his age through college.

How do you, as a grown-ass man, explain to your parents while you're under their roof and eating their meals, that you're purchasing hundreds of dollars in small, plastic toys so that you can hold onto them and sell them at a later date online? (through-and-through, these figurines to him are an "investment")

Like, I think he's imagining he's going to become a real-life Scrooge McDuck when this is all done and through and he's hoarding all of these amiibo.
Too bad that's already happened. ):

(though I do need to thank him for completely skewing Target's sales predictions - most stores get about as many new amiibo as you can count on your hands [whereas Nintendo's NYC store gets about 200 of each. Actual, BIG numbers] Every Target store's gotten like, 40 Rosalina each. All 40 are sold within the hour at most Target stores. This says good things about future restocks at not only Target, but other big retail stores)

...I wonder if Sonic will be common?

Someone should dox him and actually tell his parents about this. It's always more hilarious when you tell on someone's mother.

No seriously, nothing is more humiliating than to get your own parents to bitch at you for basically blowing money on some plastic toys. Then watch said parents sell off all these at a low price just to at least get some of the money back.

Also, it would be doubly hilarious if Nintendo basically floods the amiibo market. I mean, not just to spite him, but it would be fucking hilarious either way.

Oh man, a man can always dream...
