yeah, everything seemed to worsen after the frieza arc. the style looked more same-y same-y from cell saga and onward. the older style was clearly better for dragon ball z. here is an example with piccolo:

Its really interesting looking at the different styles clashing in the same games. Tenkaichi 3 spans the whole series up until the things that came after hirudegarn, and you can clearly see the style changes, even with effects.

I really just never liked the change DBZ made. The older rounded and simpler look was far more appealing while the new one just got annoying to look at for every single character FAST. Literally everyone in DBZ looks exactly like that with a different skin-tone and hair ^. There's lots of other things I hate about late DBZ over Saiyan Saga/Dragonball, but I'll save that for another topic I suppose.

I agree with you guys. The lack of variety sucks but I enjoy the style. Not because it looks better than any other style, but for the reason that it's hard to mimic and can serve to kind of test you (err...perhaps thats just me.). Here's Astroboy. I tried to twist the style of Akira a bit.

I'm amazed that it only takes a shift in an art style to change a lovable, kindhearted robot boy into the kind of guy who will punch your lights out if you mess with him.

Honestly, converting characters into the new DBZ style should be a new meme if it's not already.

Looking at it now, I see some things I would like to change, but I most likely won't go back and fix them.

I drew my friend Linkmister. He likes to wear cardboard boxes on his head that have marker-drawn faces on them. I actually drew it on paper first then traced it digitally. I spent like 4 fucking hours on this can sOMEONE PLEASE END MY PAIN MY BACK HURTS
