General Sonic is Terrible Thread

I've always joked that Sega has been trying to do a bankruptcy scam for decades, but the problem is that they keep making the games FUNNY bad, so people end up buying them out of curiosity.
Seriously though, I've heard Generations is genuinely good, but I've never picked it up. Thanked by: Iceman404

I don't understand why everyone hates Unleashed but loves Generations.
Unleashed, Colors, and Generations are all the exact same game, reskinned. It's just a hallway and BOOST simulator.

the point was less "hates unleashed" and more "loves generations"
Well unleashed had those long painful werehog stages and the day controls were wonky while generations had classic sonic where you could actually slow down and explore the stage, which were designed in the classic style where the level encouraged you to explore it(if you just want to finish the level then go right, but it'll get boring. If you wanna try something new, try taking a higher/lower route and find cool power ups that may or may not help you progress the stage even more diversely..."). The modern stages were the same as unleashed except with better control of sonic overall. Not to mention the SHEER NOSTALGIA IN THE GAME. Like, you're zipping through redesigned HD levels from 20 years of sonic history. Who wouldnt like it more than unleashed and the werehog's exccessive yelling everytime you slip and die?

Generation's Classic Sonic physics were so jank, it turned me off. Didn't care much for the modern gameplay either.
Again though, I'm at least happy for Sonic fans being happy with that game. If they can just make their fanbase actually pleased consistently...

Sonic fans are split in a multitude of directions... you have people like me who dabble in an older generation of Sonic, pretty much from Rush Adventure back (although I do like Sonic 4 and Sonic Chronicles) and who are also big fans of the cartoons and comic series, however the "modern Sonic" games are pretty terrible. Then you have people who hated the entire Sonic Adventure title line (SA, SA2, SH, StH) but like modern Sonic because it embraced the speed aspect of Gen Sonic more than it does the platforming and adventure aspects. Then you've got a group of people who only like the related media, and a group of people who only like Gen Sonic, and a group of people who only like Sonic Adventure and maybe the comics... The Sonic Fanbase will never be satisfied because there are far too many niches within it.

It's SEGA's fault for not knowing what the fuck their audience is and trying new gameplay style after new gameplay style.

I'm not trying to blame anybody.

They could have just stayed at sonic's roots where you have a balance of everything (Sonic Colors for me) since that would please a decent amount of the fanbase while getting neutral vibes from the rest. Thats what I think they should do at least.

Except that a whole subsection of us hate Sonic Colors. Following that path doesn't unify anything.
