Honestly, I'm miffed that everyone who saw Nintendo's E3 presentation are saying it was not all that good. I was expecting the worst when I was looking at what Nintendo offered, but I wasn't disappointed at all. Besides this Metroid game, everyone else became livid towards this Mario Party-ish Animal Crossing game. Their reasoning is that it isn't like the mainstream Animal Crossing games, but let's think about it for a bit. New Leaf was released more than two years ago and changed a lot factors in the core Animal Crossing gameplay. Besides losing portability, what would announcing a Wii U sequel this soon bring to the table? Provide fancier graphics? So what? :/

My overall qualm is that these guys are not giving these games a fair chance and forcing Nintendo (and most video games companies in general) to limit their creativity just to make the games they only want to play. Gamers done this kind of thing before in the past, which makes the whole lot of them extremely foolish during that time after they give the games a solid try and ending up liking them. If you look at Wind Waker, it ended up being one of the best Zelda games in spite of its initial negative reception. Therefore, I see no reason why games like Tri Force Heroes and this new Metroid game would not end up like Wind Waker as long as they are creative and play extremely well. Besides, Nintendo did do a bit of pandering to appeal to the close-minded fans who rejected Wind Waker by releasing the "grittier" Twilight Princess, but it ended up not holding a candle to the former due to its linear nature and being too similar to Ocarina of Time. See what I'm getting at?

Anyway, I know that these guys have reasons why to reject some of the weaker offerings from Nintendo this year, but if they just give one-sided bashing and not consider the positives aspects on what they've seen, then they honestly have no right to complain (let alone write a petition of this nature).

Do Metroid fans think that they are the only ones who had to go through this?

Do you remember what we got after Rare left Nintendo? Donkey Konga. Mario VS Donkey Kong and Jungle Beat (a game that tried to replace all past DKC characters).

It was a dark time to be a DK fan. We had to wait many years before we got Returns. During that time we never tried to get Donkey Konga 2 canceled or anything. We waited and prayed.

I'd argue the DK fans had it worse than what the Metroid fans are going through right now. See, after Rare was gone, we weren't sure we'd ever see another true DK game again. But Metroid? We KNOW there's going to be a new true title eventually. That's a fact.

That makes the situation even more pathetic than it already is. For a franchise as serious as Metroid, the fans are acting like a bunch of huge babies compared to the fans like to play games featuring a big, goofy gorilla.


Anyway, to bring a bit more positivity back into this E3 discussion, how come there isn't that much talk about this Cuphead game? I thought it was interesting when it was first announced, but after looking at the recent footage, I'm dying to play this game at least once! Even without trying to differentiate from other 2-D platformers by being all about boss battles, I bet this game will still sell and end up getting positive reviews through the artstyle alone. With the exception of coloring the characters with Photoshop, they actually created that art style by hand and went through great lengths just to emulate a product from that time period (including hiring a jazz band to record music with recording techniques from the 1930s). It makes me want to see more games stray away from the pixels and CGI models to give the cartoon ascetic more love.

I'm keeping my reservations to myself for the most part because Nintendo nailed it most of the time, but Nintendo was way too vague with the details about AC amiibo festival (and I might be giving Nintendo more credit than it's worth, but it might just be a game mode in a fuller game [they did say "The amiibo cards play another factor in the game, but we can't tell you what that is yet"]

People are also saying that the game's a free download (which Nintendo REALLY should have mentioned) and you have to "buy in" by purchasing compatible amiibo you want to use, kinda like collectible Monopoly pieces. That changes the entire schematic of the game as now it gives players a reason to bust open their NIB amiibo and use them in amiibo festival. 

Personally, I think Nintendo's repurposing AC at the moment to attract the "non-gamer" demographic again but making it even more obvious this time around, because it's being shown off as "look, it's a game. a VIDEO game"

But Goemar, why would you need voice chat when your friends are sitting right next to you? Can't you just talk to them in meatspace? Wink
It's the same reason Splatoon has no voicechat: It's a decision made mostly by producers to limit toxicity when younger players are playing online with strangers (which is also why your actions are limited to a thumbs-up and pom-poms: there's probably a "crawl dungeons with strangers" feature)
Of course, we have the brains to not talk smack and make judgements about other players in a Zelda game, but you never know given how bum-ass stupid the Internet is ("Oh man we're playing with a girl? Pfft what would a GIRL know about speedrunning dungeons, fucking casual go back to Animal Crossing" <---there are people in the gaming community who actually address others like this. i have seen it. it is real. i was there)

Oh, Animal Crossing Party will be a lot more appealing if that Free-to-Play stuff is true. Then I can just go out and get my Isabelle Amiibo and be happy and run around a board game.

Still kind of wish it was Nintendo Amiibo Party... The Amiibo need some games they can be more useful in, and that's probably one of the better candidates for that type of game.

So, is anyone else as excited as I am for Mario Maker? I'm usually by myself when it comes to fanaticism about level building and customization, but it looks even more amazing than I could have even imagined when they first revealed this last year.

What it also sets the stage for is OTHER Maker style games. I know I've said this elsewhere, but I would love to see a Zelda Maker that could switch between original, Snes and 3ds graphics.

I'd rather see it between GBC, SNES, GBA and 3DS graphics honestly. The original NES Zelda is way too bland, considering it's early release and the limitations out there. Nothing but tan for miles on the overworld, and all the dungeons look the same.

Wait, Zelda has no online? And Splatoon's no voice chat is still stupid. It's called parental guidance. Make it so voice chat is off by default. Sorted.

Yeah, it's got online multiplayer - but I think the idea is that they'd rather push the local multiplayer aspect than the online one.

I mean, it's 2015 - if you really want to play a game on a Nintendo platform with voicechat, just use Skype or Mumble or something lol.

True, but also take into account the fact that in Mario Maker, they devised new tiles and enemies outside of their original environments. I figure if they were willing to make a Zelda Maker, they'd definitely want to go that extra mile.
