I feel like the broken sel-out on the hair and mouth isn't doing the sprite any favors. Looks nice otherwise!

How do you guys feel about pixel overs? I haven't really seen any mention of that in here and I've recently taken a few steps in that direction.

Roaming Samurai pokemon trainer, based off of this.

I couldn't have told at a glance that was a pixel-over, so it looks pretty good to me. The shading on the arms looks a little strange, however. They're not receding into the background very quickly, so there shouldn't be such a sudden difference in shading as they go into the sleeve. And now that I notice it, the proportions on this sprite look a bit strange. They look a little too realistic for something in Pokemon's style.

For that reason, it is not very good practice to trace existing drawings to make your art. You will learn more slowly drawing this way, and it does not teach you how to pose and draw anatomy correctly. On the other hand, referencing a picture and copying the pose is very common practice, so I would try that instead. Just try your best to reference real-world photos instead of drawings whenever possible. If you reference other drawings, your art might have the same issues the original drawing had.

On the running guy, the arm that's farthest from us should be more visible to help with the pose and silhouette.

Further elaborating my point. I think it strengthens the overall pose (even though there are other things that could also help it)
I also rotated the torso a bit to make the back arm make a bit more sense

Um...

I thought his post was one of the most sarcastic things I've ever read...
Nobody who's actually angry puts three silly exclamation points on their own line

That's his way of saying "thanks"

sarcasm doesn't go well over written text so I think that's a common mistake, I guess

though it's good to think about others before using sarcasm - it could avoid those misunderstandings

anyway i have this
