Interesting.
I just checked my un-updated 3ds version and I have his hat, but not the costume.
Must have been a glitch.

Sakurai did mention Heihachi was considered but his moves would have been difficult to implement, I guess this also applies to the others Tekken or Soul Calibur characters as well

for those who wanted alph as a clone, it actually happened at one point. idk why they scrapped it for lucina/dark pit though.

Random Thought: The characters from the upcoming Federation Force game would make for some really decent Mii Gunner costumes. They already kind of look like Miis in costume:

That is of course assuming that the whiny assholes out there don't get the game cancelled.

I assume the reason it was scrapped was that they wanted him to be more than what Lucina and Dark Pit are, and thought that there would be more Lucina and Dark Pit fans than Alph fans who would be excited by them being separate characters. What it probably came down to was lack of time.

Why would Heihachi be hard to impliment?

At this point I think almost any character can be a fighter in Smash if you work hard enough.

Ryu works because his button inputs and moveset compliments a Smash environment.

Heihachi would be far more difficult to make an accurate representation and celebration of the Tekken series because the Tekken games have a four-button layout where reach button corresponds to another limb, and the combos are based highly on juggling.

Oh? Since when was that a problem? I don't see why they have to be completely accurate to their original source. Smash doesn't do that with most characters anyway.

Does Mario shrink when he takes damage?

No, just like Mario doesn't have a 6 point health bar, or a 3 point health bar, or have a bee suit or a racing kart.

Smash has always been very respectful of it's third party guests, though. Their character comes in with a very wide representation of their character or their parent company.

Snake has an absurd amount of weaponry pulled out of hammerspace and a sort of serious, yet at the same time tongue-in-cheek disposition.

Sonic has a variety of moves that work basically how you'd expect them to in a Sonic game (spin dashing, homing attack with two button presses, etc), as well as his well-loved speed.

Mega Man has a vast array of Robot Master weapons and even pays homage to the MvC series with his Mega Upper. His animations are even reminiscent of his NES golden age.

Pac Man celebrates both 3D and 2D Pac Man in his attacks, and also provides fan service to numerous Namco franchises through cameos.

Ryu has his classic moves useable with their traditional button commands, and even has two FInal Smashes, referencing the latest Street Fighter IV iteration where you can go into a match with access to both Ultra Moves.

Now work hard, tell me how you'd celebrate Heihachi.

Take the animation and movements from the game he comes from and make moves based on those. That's what they did for Snake.

The only character in the game that tries to resemble the same gameplay is Ryu. He's the first!

Everyone else is just fine pulling animations movements and sounds from their respective game and making a moveset that works for Smash off of that.

Ryu could have still been a fine Smash character without command imputs or strong and light attacks.

As long as they move, sound, and act like that character then you can do whatever you want after that.

I watched Heihachi fight in various videos just now and I'm sitting there saying "Oh that could be his Dash attack, that could be his Forward Smash" You could easily make a moveset for Heihachi that resembles the way he fights in his games.

I dunno MegaMan feels like MegaMan, especially when I'm fiddling around with Smash run

The fact that you have to press forward while standing still on the ground to charge your Buster instead of holding the same button you just used to shoot threw off my friend like crazy when he first started playing as Mega Man.

I said, "You're not playing Mega Man, you are playing Smash. Play by Smash's rules."

Heihachi was actually included as a playable fighter in the Playstation All Stars game, and while that game has completely different mechanics from the Smash Bros. games, it can't be TOO hard to adapt him.

Also, on that little blurb about Alph, honestly I think him just being an alternate skin came down to 3DS limitations as well. I don't know if you guys remember this, but Olimar actually ran horribly on the 3DS version on launch. He was fixed after a patch, but it still shows that Olimar was a difficult task for the 3DS to handle. Having TWO characters that barely worked? Eh.

The two versions complaint is something even I have to agree with, as it held back both games from being a truly awesome game. Seeing now that we could've had both a Rock Pikmin Toting Alph and the Ice Climbers back if not for the 3DS version is sort of annoying.
