Because I'd prefer to do tht instead of go to a sketchy website.

You can use the homebrew app usb loader GX to install Gamecube/Wii roms off the disc to USB(Wii/Gamecube) or SD(Gamecube), I do this for all the Wii games I'm currently ripping from.

So what software do you use to rip it then?

Or to be more specifically, how do you do your model ripping instructions?

After you dump your rom, use dolphin to extract the files, if they use brres format then you can just use brawlbox(There might be better programs, but I've only used brawlbox) to export as a .dae, if not they might be compressed, have a different header, or file format which you would have to look for with a hex editor or figure out what format they use if not brres.

It's been so long that I don't remember if it is or not, I just remember using that specific video for my initial installation though.

Right click on the game and select preferences. There should be a tab listing the games files, so extract the files that contain the models.

Patience.
The files are probably encrypted and can't be opened. At most, I'd recommend uploading some sample files and waiting for people to see them. Perhaps someone might gain interest and decrypt them.
