If You Could Change Things In Games...
#16
Every game should have cutscenes which can be paused. If I have to pee, I shouldn't have to accidentally skip the twenty-minute monologue. x.x;

More innovative costumes for fighters in Smash. Like Classic Sonic, Jumpman, classic Link, different designs of Mega Man (probably wouldn't work out very well), etc.

The potential was there in Sm4sh but they, overall, dropped the ball in my opinion, even with simple recolor potential (like Ryu and Mega Man, how did they not give Ryu any outfits colored off of other fighters or Proto Man/Bass/Duo recolors for Mega Man).

On the bright side, all of those you mentioned are actually available as skins for Brawl/Project M (albeit Mega Man is oddly over Lucario, but the creator made additional Sm4sh style skins of Proto Man and Captain N Mega Man).

Similarly, I'd love to see alternative voice options for some characters in Smash, at least for characters that have had radically different voices between different Smash games (e.g. Link or Ganon) or different altogether from their source games (e.g. DK or Bowser).

Being able to switch weapons and gear between online matches in Splatoon.  No need to disconnect, change your loadout, and connect again.  Minor, but still would be appreciated.

Man, the "thanked by" section of this post is pleasing to the eye.

copy & pasting from some text files I have:

list of improvements for code name steam
+ speed up movement and skip animations for enemies that are out of sight (especially for enemies that aren't going to move anyways) also just a way to speed up animations altogether
- remedied with an update to be able to fastfoward enemy phase (kind of a silly bandaid, but it works)
+ have options to specifically highlight overwatch view cones
+ be able to pause during enemy turns (really, should always be able to reach a pause menu at any time in any game ever)
+ one weird thing is moving slowly in a turn-based game; there's really rarely ever much reason not to do it (just evading overwatch, but that's rarely possible) and moving slowly confers so many ingame advantages that the time loss is made up for in game advantages (but it's still time lost)
+ maybe more colors or colored outlines or something to help tell enemy types apart (some others complain about that; I don't have too much problem with it myself, but I can understand the issue and it could be fixed anyways)
+ make stealth prowlers less BULLSHIT GODDAMN could be done by making a different stealth enemy (not a prowler) that at least doesn't have overwatch capabilities of its own; then put the pushback weapon on some regular prowlers or something
+ remove or tone down ambush spawns
+ y'know, when an enemy spawns and gets to move in the same turn
+ instead, make enemy spawns more like how they are in the 3rd map of Chasing Smoke, where Hounds spawn on top of buildings (so you can see them at least), then jump down on their next turn
+ also, if you're going to ambush spawn, don't EVER ambush spawn Stealth Prowlers; the fact that they can't be overwatched means they can't be dealt with at all and will likely be guaranteed 3 hits (at least 1 on their turn and 2 enemy overwatches)

xcom enemy unknown/within time saves

1. remove overwatch delay (the delay after telling a unit to go into overwatch and continuing the game)
2. allow player to select menu options while moving (and the character will perform it immediately after movement ends)
3. allow player to change weapon while a menu option is active (and don't make it close the current option)
4. remove slow-motion overwatch attacks (or make it an option)
5. speed up overwatch animations in general for snipers, heavies, shivs, and mecs
6. fix firing animations to not have those weird moments where units look the wrong way and then slowly aim the right way
- this is kind of a weird polish issue (like seriously, why are they facing the wrong way at all?), but fixing it would also save time
7. show the "aliens revealed" animation thing only once (the first time a type of pod is encountered); after that, just
skip right to the scamper
8. a command to make all units overwatch and end turn and the same for reloading

note that I'm not suggesting removing all time restrictions (such as allowing animations to be skipped altogether)
some of these time restrictions serve valuable purposes such as giving some extra time to really consider actions
and adds to the atmosphere/tone of the game (e.g. the tension of some of the actions)

that's why all the time saves I suggest focus on speeding up the menu interactions

though I guess a bunch of these are addressed by mods already so maybe a moot issue now lol

Make most Mario games more visually pleasing and stop reusing boring, uninspired environments. Maybe make some enemy/creature designs that don't feel like forgettable one-off throwaways too.

Isn't this the exact opposite of what everyone has been saying for years?

Cutscenes shouldn't take forever to begin with?

I dunno, maybe? I don't mind long scenes provieed they're engaging. And anyway, I'm not saying to make them unskippable... I just want a middle ground.

I might be speaking for myself on this particular, but please Nintendo, no more fucking Koopalings for a while. And concerning the same-y environments, the worst part about the recycled environments is that they often choose to just recycle the most basic themes of all (if you wanna rehash shit at least rehash shit that's different).

As for the cutscene discussion, I think cutscenes should offer both skippability and pausability. However, I'd have the Zelda practice of having to press Start or what have you twice to confirm the cutscene skip and plaster a "!" symbol or something on the confirm-skip prompt to warn if a particular cutscene has progress-critical information (like "here's the combination to that important safe and if you skipped the cutscene I'm not telling you again because I died or got kidnapped or fuck you or something").

Mine are really nitpicky.

I'd change the crappy secret ending to Scaler to something other than "This is the cheesy ending Hollywood would've given you!" It's downright insulting to people (like me) who put a lot of time into getting 100%. Of course that's also middle school-me talking... >_>

Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon should let you skip move animations like you could in Gates to Infinity (holy crap something GtI did BETTER??). And maybe make those greeting travelling Pokemon sequences shorter? Too much flashy stuff and it takes forever. It especially builds up if you have a lot of missions to go on in a single dungeon.

In Donkey Kong 64, all bananas and coins are yellow. And any Kong can grab them.

I gotta agree with this. A huge part of DK64s charm is the rainbow collectible's all over the place. They just make everything so pretty Genki ^_^

The worlds are already pretty in my opinion. Splitting the collectables up five ways just made the game more of a pain.
