TSR's Super Smash Bros Thread|SWITCH HYPE TRAIN NOW BOARDING
EDIT: I posted in the wrong topic, oops excuse me.

So Corrin is really cool, like him a ton. He's a new main, which is great because I was getting a bit tired of Ness, so this is something fresh.

For all of Smash Night last night, I played pure Bayonetta (with one match as Captain Falcon).

New main. New main. New main. There's not a thing I don't love about her playstyle, it's great. Took some getting used to, but now I'm pretty confident she'll be one of my best characters.

I like corn. She's practically a lancer with her range. Also her projectile is cool.
I'm not good with bayo though, being seemingly combo-focused? I'm bad at combos. (and also at this game in general)

Bayonetta is a really good character albeit broken with her witch time and insane combo capabilities, Corrin on the other hand is... meh. I wasn't really as impressed with him as I thought I would be. Some of his key moves require precision to be practical, like his up smash and side b, which isn't bad at all. All that means is that you need skill to be a threat. Forward smash doesnt have much knockback unless sweetspotted at the tip. Even then it was just okay, i kept getting hit by it and I still didnt die even at 110%. I dunno. I'm just not feeling it...

I love that counter though. SO satisfying.

Corrin's neutral B is weird in that it's a projectile attack, but most efficient when used close range, because of the follow-up attack, that biting hand... thing (the projectile stuns to allow said follow-up.) The follow-up also serves as a safety net in case the projectile gets reflected. It breaks the projectile.

Bayonaise's utility is ridiculous, but I love her so much for the fact that being able to shoot by holding A after executing the corresponding standard move, even in between the basic combo attacks (A>A>A), makes her stand out so much as a unique character with a unique gimmick.

You know it occurs to me ... if they actually were to make a direct port of the Wii U version for the NX, we might actually end up LOSING some characters.

At the moment Nintendo has only acquired permission to use the various third-party characters in the Wii U and 3DS games. Making an additional version means they would have to renegotiate contracts with each of their parent companies, and that runs the risk of any of said companies being uncooperative. They could end up demanding too much money, or Nintendo could offer too little due to them feeling like they've already put the work in, or the company in question could end up just straight up refusing (I don't know if you've noticed, but there is a LOT of spite going around in the gaming companies as of late).

The risk is honestly probably quite small, as I think any company involved would be complete idiots to not negotiate with Nintendo, but the risk does exist. It certainly would be bizarre for them to present the game to us as "Smash Bros. NX! Starring all your favorite characters from the Wii U game (*cough*except megaman*cough*)."

Someone on another forum was like, "What sick timeline did I come from to think Corrin is more fun than Bayonetta?"

This type of stuff is really silly.. Like.. do people genuinely believe that characters they didn't want in the game won't be fun to play as? Or that everyone who uses a sword will use it the same way? People are silly lol.

True. The only truly similar sword fighters are marth and lucina, the others play differently and require different playstyles. People just blow the sword fighter crap way too much. I think it just has to do with bias and how some people are butthurt we go another fire emblem character instead of someone new, even though we still did. Eh.

So I took the time to write a review now that the game's "finished" aside from balance patches.

TL;DR I like the game. It's not perfect, but it's a damn sight better than Brawl was and I'm still having fun playing it over a year later.

I liked Brawl better, but I have a different standard to liking a Smash game. I judge each Smash by the new content it brings me. Characters, stages, items, modes, and more.

-Brawl gave us characters like Wario, King Dedede, Diddy Kong, Pokemon Trainer, Sonic, and other huge names.
-They introduced Final Smashes! Now your beloved characters can unleash their ultimate power.
-Assist Trophies! All sorts of Nintendo characters can get in on the action.
-Stage builder! Create your own stages and share them online.
-Customize what music plays on a stage. Yes, choose from dozens of songs to play while you battle. So many good remixes too!
-Subspace Emissary! Okay this one didn't end up being as good as it could have been, but it was WAY better than Smash Tour/Run.

So yeah. Brawl had me doing backflips with the stuff mentioned above. Smash 4? Didn't offer me as much. Sure it gave me Mega Man and Pac-Man, but that was about it on the stuff that excited me.

I'm in agreement with you on this. Smash Wii U definitely has better mechanics and a better roster, and I am glad it exists for those reasons and wouldn't wish it away for anything, but I find myself preferring Brawl overall for all of the features outside the main multiplayer smash mode.

- Brawl's Classic mode is WAY better than the one offered in Smash U. (The 3DS one is pretty decent though).
- Although Target Blast is interesting, it really doesn't beat Break the Targets.
- Smash 4's custom stage mode SUCKS. And the pitiable thing is that due to how it works it should have been a huge leap over the one offered in Brawl, but all it's terrible issues makes Brawl's custom stage mode glitter in comparison.
- Subspace Emissary is a great co-op experience. My sister and I have played through it together many times already. I don't understand why people complain about this mode so much.
- I also liked the fact that minigames like the one in the credits and the coin shooting game in Brawl gave you fun little breaks from the main Smash gameplay. Smash 4 has their credits minigame and the block breaking minigame which are both still just the fighting gameplay, and although I do appreciate the fact that they test your character-playing skills in unique ways, it just feels kind of lazy to me.
- I also really enjoyed getting to fight the variety of bosses in Brawl, especially the ones taken from various represented franchises (Petie, Rayquaza, Ridley, Porky).

I'm not saying Smash 4 is bad by a longshot, just that, as someone who isn't all that competitive in general, there doesn't seem to be a lot of features offered for people like me. Outside the roster itself, the only thing I got out of this Smash generation that really appeals to me is the Smash Run mode, which most people don't even acknowledge because it's only included in the inferior version of the game. Brawl offers a lot more variety of content outside the basic multiplayer competition mode.

If my opinions seem dumb to you, just chalk it up to the fact that I'm just not that hardcore of a player.

That's true. Can't argue with that.

What?! Really? In what way?

Why does he need to explain himself, Koopaul? The roster is better, there's more characters who have unique playstyles representing both old and new titles in Nintendo history, while keeping many of the previous games' roster. It's objectively a stronger roster than the previous games'. What else needs to be said?

-We get Mega Man, Pac-Man, Ryu, Bayonetta, Cloud, Duck Hunt Duo, Shulk, Little Mac and Wii Fit Trainer.
-Characters cut from Brawl make a return (Mewtwo, Dr. Mario, Roy).
-At the expense of:
Ice Climbers due to technical limitations on 3DS (they could've made them the exception as a Wii U exclusive character, but w.e.)
Squirtle and Ivysaur, because Charizard replaces Pokémon Trainer as an idividual character.
Snake, because Konami is Konami and Konami is the worst. #fucKonami
And Wolf, who is the only one without a real excuse other than "clone, durr", which isn't a strong counter argument since Lucas and Roy made it back.

As much as it still baffles me how Wolf wasn't brought back, Smash 4's roster is undeniably better than Brawl's.
