The Original is NOT Always Better!
#46
I believe it was on the Pac-Man Collection on the GBA as well, very good game. Weird how it isn't ported as often as it's pretty damn decent.

well shit now that we're on the topic of namco i can bring this out:

Valkyrie no Bouken was released on the Famicom in 1986 and was then remade for Namco Anthology 2 for the PSX. The main differences are the music (the PSX remake uses the soundtrack of the arcade game while the FC version uses its own music), and the fact that the remake is more linear than the Zelda 1-esque original game and therefore has less exploration involved (which could be disappointing, depending on what kind of gamer you are). personally, i think the remake is much easier to play (the original game has pretty frustrating controls) and the graphics are really gorgeous.

*on a related note, a long time ago someone redid some of the original 8-bit sprites: http://pixelation.org/index.php?topic=8251.0

I almost forgot about the PS1 version of Dragon Quest Monsters 1 and 2.

Besides the usual graphical improvements and more polished engine, there's extra content and some exclusive monsters, and the most important improvement here is the ability to WALK IN 8-DIRECTIONS!!!! With ordinal facing sprites too!

Already played it, it's way better than the original. But for us non-Japanese mortals, not playable enough to make it through the game as there is still no translation patch.

They said they were like 90% done with the translations, it just needed some adjustments to the code to better fit English, but that was last year. So I don't know what's going on right now unfortunately, but maybe they'll surprise us, and have it out by Christmas x3.

Does the Unleashed Project Mod count? It's unofficial and all, but I like the levels much better in the Generations engine, not the least of which because the Homing Attack is set to double-tapping A rather than using the Boost when in range of an enemy.

Also, gonna say it - aside from the story, which was not nearly as good as the original (even if the original's totally irrelevant nowadays), GoldenEye Wii is better than GoldenEye 64.

I've mentioned it else where but Odin Sphere. Not only is the remaster somehow prettier but the combat has been heavily improved.

Another game that really added a lot of depth into the remaster was Guardian Heroes. As owning a working Saturn is pretty uncommon (of course I do, I'm a badass) having the game rereleased was pretty surprising never mind the amount of effort that went into it. Sure, I'm not a fan of the new graphics but as I can simply switch to the graphics of old I have no complaints.

From a simple hacker and slash to a game of skill it was pretty amazing, had combos and everything.

Matt R. should pay me, with as much as I seem to advertise his works here lately... XD

Epic Battle Fantasy...

I do not like one and two because of their harsh restart points and difficulty curve., I also dislike the fact it's a non-stop onslaught of enemy waves.

Starting at EBF 3, an overworld was added, you can save basically anywhere, and dying can be taken relatively lightly since you don't get stuck all the way back at the beginning or the halfway mark. In general, EBF 3, 4 (and soon 5?) are just more polished and/or enjoyable.
