Like it's been said before, whatever the developers want to make, they should be able to make. They want to make a game they has fleshed out women, that's fine. They want to make a game like Lollipop Chainsaw, that's fine too.

Actually I prefer funny, over the top, fanservicey games to ones that take themselves seriously.

>implying lollipop chainsaw isnt feminist
Look no one's holding a gun to people's head and saying "make what we want or we kill u" they're simply voicing how certain games are reliant on sexist tropes and that they wish they werent (or, y'know, excercising freedom of speech. It's a two way street). Creators changing their work bc of feedback isnt "censorship", it's taking what people said into consideration, and 99% of the time when the "we couldnt release this bc the ESS JAY DUBBAYOOS" card is played it's purposefully playing it up for controversy (fucking NO ONE gave a shit about the new dead or alive vollyball game until the company selling exports played that angle)

Actually...MoneyMan's post is kinda tame. He only was kinda snarky as it seems like you're judging Lollipop Chainsaw by its cover (he's right though - your post reads as if it's dismissing Lollipop Chainsaw as a bargain bin B-movie-esque game with a brainless bimbo and zero plot.
Except that B-movie vibe is fully intended, and also the game ended up being a wonderful parade of subversive feminism)

I kinda figured that. Like there's a more obvious reason it was cancelled: the games just don't sell well because it feels like dodgy porn.
Who the hell is the audience here in the States? Would you have played it, Koopaul? Would you have played it in front of your parents? Your girlfriend? Your son? It's a real oddball game squarely aimed at basement dwellers, especially given its oddball gameplay and would've really struggled to find a demographic here.

Yeah okay yes because there's a huge market for bikini volleyball simulations on the Playstation 4. Sure okay let me tell you about the pop idol management sim these Americans are just gonna LOVE when we release it on XBOX One

Tecmo's "Fucking SJWs" reaction was tongue-and-cheek and of course you all totally saw how incredibly hard Play-Asia slurped up all the press by playing fully into the controversy, there is no way they just pulled something like that out of their ass

Actually, most said the volleyball aspect of it was rubbish .... many 'dirty filthy SJWs!' actually recommend the original DOA: Beach Volley Ball for a good volley ball game.

I didn't even talk about DOA Beach Volleyball and Money Man went on a rant about Play Asia.

But how is Lollipop Chainsaw any less fanservicey than DOA Beach Volleyball? Sex appeal is a huge reason for people to purchase both of those games. You can write as much subversive humor as you want but at the end if the day it was still advertised as something fanservicey. And she was designed to be sexually entertaining for the audience. There is nothing wrong with something being sexually provocative to entertain.

"Would you have played it in front of your parents? Your girlfriend? Your son?"

Would you have played Lollipop Chainsaw in front of those people Kosheh?

Lollipop Chainsaw's character is a parody of the cheerleader trope, it turns the oversexualized design of the character on its head by embracing a can-do blood bath macho man approach to combat. The joke is that you expected a super generic girl who was fan service and still got a Mad World style of violence, appearances can be deceiving and all that jazz. That being said, my girlfriend loved Lollipop Chainsaw, my father thought it was hilarious and both didn't just watch but actually played the game.

As far as I'm concerned, Guycott is the only one who has posted anything useful in this thread.

How is making the game a bloodbath turning the oversexualized design on its head. Mortal Kombat has plenty of oversexualized characters. Don't you mean the glittery girly rainbows and hearts turn the violence on it's head? That makes more sense.

Anyway, there's plenty of games with overly sexy protags and tons of violence (movies too). I think they do that because people like sexy characters and violence. Here they wanted to make a ridiculously funny over-the-top game too. So they added glitter and rainbows. It's supposed to be funny in a Happy Tree Friends kind of way.

Point is, DOA Beach Volley Ball and Lollipop Chainsaw are games that don't take themselves seriously and are just meant to entertain in a lowbrow way.

Lollipop Chainsaw is a pretty classic example of the minority exploitation genre... scantily clad girls making light of a scenario where they effortlessly and brutally cause bloodshed isn't even a new concept. They aren't "subversive of genres," these types of games and movies are just the holy trinity of what guys tend to like: blood, boobs, and jokes. I mean, there was a segment of this very forum up-in-arms about a certain upskirt achievement when the game launched...

I was called out personally so like, I gotta answer this question.

I usually didn't play videogames much in front of my parents to begin with, but yeah I probably would've. My mom LOVES tacky grindhouse when it's done right (House of the Dead Overkill is probably one of my mom's favorite videogames next to like Wii Sports Resort right now, but my dad pretends he has standards and gets offended when video games say "Hell") Lollipop Chainsaw isn't grindhouse but it's presented with that same kinda hamhanded tackiness.
My girlfriend actually fucking loved Lollipop Chainsaw but got frustrated with the controls in one particular part of the game. One of her favorite games is Onechanbara Bikini Zombie Slayers (my gf really likes hack and slash games but adding waggle just seals the deal)

If I had a son of course though I'd wait till he's a little older given all the violence in the game though, even if it's violence against zombies lol

people who use this as an argument are silly, because it gives this idea like nudity and or sexuality in general are distasteful, or something to be ashamed of, which they're not, at all

im not kosheh but my answer here is yes simply because there's zero shame in nudity or violence or etc. my phone wallpaper has been risque before, there's zero point in feeling embarrassed for appreciating art, whether it's something like a phone wallpaper or a video game
