It plays pretty much like Zelda (A Link to the Past), you can block, swing your sword and use magic. Ah, and you can jump and attack levitating enemies in mid-air.
The biggest gamebreaker are probably the heal potions, which make the game extremely easy.

The secret base in Kefin is also on my list.

Like Ark from Terranigma, you can see Adol with all of his sprites in vSNES with an 8x8 grid. Since you can change his colours ingame (underpants, armor, etc.), this is just one palette of many that PalViewer displays for you. But yeah, not doing him because I rather get the backgrounds.

Can you send the save? I could take a look.

@Magma Dragoon:
The save itself is useless, you need the ROM. If you analyze just the savefile without it, you can't select "ROM" inside the MemViewer.
Anyway, here are the saves I'm using:

I named them and if you want to avoid spoilers, only use the files from the first folder. Any savefile for tile-ripping Adol is good as long as you have the ROM.
Spoilers aren't a problem, i've already beaten this game when the translation came out. I'll check the save files anyway.

Davy, you really sure his palette changes? On what little I checked from your saves, I never saw a difference. Anyway, this is him almost completely assembled, still trying to figure some stray pixels here and there as well as the swords. Help is appreciated.

You can change his palette (upper/lower body) in the main menu. The palette you have right now is a custom palette which I've used in my entire playthrough (I never changed it, because I liked this combination the most).
Concerning the swords:
I don't think you can assemble the swords and the sprites together, the game handles them as separate entities. I would hard-rip them and since there are only two variations (stabbing & swinging + frames from using magic), it shouldn't take too long.
Here you can see how some of the sword frames look like when magic is used:

Never had a thing for this kind of combat, though. Nevertheless, one of the last saves should have more than enough material to get any flux stone combination you want.

I had forgotten about the palettes in the menu. Thankfully this makes picking them very easy.
I thought I'd had to hard-rip it anyway, but at least I can use this current sheet for reference.

I would definitely include the parts on the hard-ripped sheet, if you don't already plan to.
