Paraemon's Comprehensive Ripping Project Thread [Expansion Station]

IMO, the Egg Mobile should be separate from Kyodai.

Thanks! And I agree, to a certain extent, but I feel it should remain as it's technically the third phase of the fight and the falling debris wouldn't make all that much sense without it.

This is the last thing I have for this side of Friday.

I got to double check the wall of flames but for the most part, it seems to be in order. Now excuse me, Avengers: Endgame tickets are on sale and I'm snapping some of 'em up.

Just an expanded rip set for Lava Drill. The combinations may not have been necessary but I reckon they're helpful. Smile

So I'm not going to post multiple sheets at once per post until I've cleared the semester. I may not have classes now but there's still the issue of assignments and exams.

Anyway, another re-rip of one of SupaChao's sheets, which had a line of pixels missing and some needless (and broken) repeating bits. I'm starting to theorise that this isn't the Flying Battery per se, but rather a transport vessel that goes up to it. If it was the full FBZ, then it'd stand to reason we'd see a scene akin to the Wing Fortress in Sky Chase Zone.

The Sonic 3 Complete versions of Flying Battery Zone's backgrounds are up on TSR. Smile Unlike the eventual release of the actual backgrounds, I've limited them to the palettes they depend on, instead of applying Palette Locks and Debug Mode shenanigans.

And here's Flame Mobile!

Looking good! I like that you have the tiles on there.

Thank you. Smile I figure it would be better to retain them and fill out the spaces where there ought to be blank tiles so they can be better selected.

Today's update! Today's number is 13. And with it comes the final of the Sonic & Knuckles main stage backgrounds!

Did I just solve Sonic CD's sixth Special Stage background?!

So I had this theory, that each line of pixels in the background are misaligned, and "creates" the illusion of movement. The actual truth is that it's on a cycling palette of sorts. While it remains to be determined that the broken up version is actually in some form of an upward or sideways motion (or both), it nevertheless remains fact that, based on how Frames 1 and 2 appear below, that instead of however many thousands of frames, it can be cut down to just a handful of frames based on the rotating palette. But for now, I don't think the "motion" is an actual thing.

It makes me wonder if this also applies to the first Special Sage, but I'll test that theory at a later point.

Edit:

So Frame 3 above is the same palette as Frame 2, but that's been fixed.

Here's what Frame 5 looks like before putting things in the right place.

This is really ambitious, but cool. I wish you luck!

I hope you don't mind, but I stole borrowed your OP format for my own Spider-man ripping project Tongue . I really like how well it organizes everything.

Again, good luck!

Thanks! And no, I don't mind at all, if it helps, then there's no problem. Smile

So after a few back-to-back burn-outs with recent Sonic sheets and finding the extent of the content for some of the harder ones, I'm taking a small break from the project to cool down, and look at a few other things. Keep an eye on the site, though, I might just throw up something there with no warning!

It's been a hot second, huh? Well, things have been a tad crazy here, at least in my upstairs grey matter unit.

The small break became a little larger, and so on, until this point. To me, the project's not cancelled, but it is still on hold, and I don't know when I'll next upload something, as it requires having had something to work on before uploading. Between several external factors, I don't have much in the way of motivation currently to get on with it, even though I concluded the university year seven weeks ago.

I'm going to try and spend some time over the coming weeks working out a way to dig at the heart of the content, and it may start with re-jigging the current sheets, if just to give me something that'll keep me focused on the project and excited to explore what I haven't uncovered or have left mid-extraction.

See y'all soon!

Good to hear from you! No rush for the project. Work on yourself first!

Thanks man! I'm getting there!

Current progress of the Zone 2 (Present) Map for Tidal Tempest. I'm intentionally leaving the gap with the purple blocks until last as that's where the endlessly looping waterfall is, and I want to include the ledges behind it.

As far as stage ripping is concerned, I think it'd be easier if I went at the ones that have underwater palettes first, since there's a minimum of two palettes per map.

I decided to investigate the Flowers from Sonic CD, and found something curious.

In the final game, the Flowers' palettes are called from the Enemy/Object palette line. This is particularly spurious in Tidal Tempest, where the aforementioned palette line there remains the same in or out of the water, so the Flowers remain the same color, even in different time periods where the water changes Sonic's palette to a different color scheme.

However, in the 510 Prototype, the palettes are called from the Foreground palette line. This gave the Flowers a wider range of color schemes to account for the different time periods, and in my opinion, is a greatly missed opportunity. Underwater inflections are applied to those seen in Tidal Tempest, and Stardust Speedway Zone 1 Present even gets in on a different color scheme due to some odd scrolling block of color.

Please do keep the combined flowers from Doc's sheet when you finish this one. I really like how he included his own take on the WWZ flower.
