because we had to do a shitload of pointless shit to fight the next assassin because of Silvia's spending habits (Due to the fact of sir mother fucking Henry being tight on cash) and making it completely mandatory was dumb as hell

if anything make the side missions optional so you can upgrade weapons and buy a bunch of pointless stuff would seem like the best option in my opinion
