Technically, Megaman.exe had his first appeareance in a video game (in 2001), then in the anime (2002), when wikipedia is correct.
However, the original MegaMan deserves being sprited a lot more than X or MM.exe. That doesn't mean that you cannot try one of those in the SBP style. It's just very unlikely for him to appear in the game, though. EDIT: Yeah, just like Tonberry said, original is the way to go.
Just some ideas for Megamans moveset:
- Perhaps MegaMan could do any other actions than attacks (running, jumping) while charging his MegaBuster, jst like in the games. (if you didn't have that in mind already)
- If Rush walking in the background had no use in combat, it would be more or less some (relatively unnecesary) spriting work. Instead I would just let Rush appear for the Final Smash or perhaps the Up Special (Rush Jet)?
- I always imagined Top Spin as a neutral air, like Olimar's in Brawl, but I think it doesn't really matter whether it will be a D-Air or N-Air c:
