I don't think this sort of issue is a tSR exclusive thing, the general attitude of most of the places I've seen has been going downhill for the past few years.
Admittedly for a time I thought it was cool to conform with the general jackassery but I had a bit of an epiphany myself in early 08 and have generally been at least attempting to be a kinder person (It is difficult, many internet communities are very trying when it comes to not just wanting to troll.)
I think it is nice to see others who want to turn things around.
