This isn't a hack for the SNES or anything that requires a limited pallet. Just about every computer made in the last ten years supports at [i]least[i/] 24 bit color so that's not a good excuse for it either. The only reason pallets are used for modern sprites is to fit into a specific style which these do quite well already or possibly for a game on the DS although most of the time you won't use enough colors in a sprite for it to matter anyway. If someone really wanted to devamp them to put in a hack or something anyway it wouldn't take a lot of effort on their part to recolor a few pixels.
to clarify, i meant that some of the colors in their hair are not far enough in contrast that they need to be needed
for example look at mario, u don't see his hat littered with slightly different shaded colors of red to make his hat look more real, instead u see that the hat has about five different shades used well enough that extra is not needed
more or less, adding those extra colors pushes it farther from the style that mario is under
