Updated! Turns out the 'mystery font' is nearly the same font used in the battle menus of the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum games, however it seems absent in-game in HeartGold/SoulSilver.

Will probably update again once the US version releases (that is if there are any changes to the font compared to the Japanese version).
