Okay, I didn't read all the replies on this, but here's my two cents:
People want to bring back the series because many people view it as a classic. Plus, its like a new fad to bring back old things. But, when they do this, they revamp the old thing to make it look more badass, so it would appeal to the fresh new generations, that are part of the demographic group that is aimed at. A classic example of this is the Transformers movie.
Also, if it certain amount of rep, credit, or hype is inserted on anything, then it won't matter how much that thing sucked. An example of this is the TV series Bananza.
