SVN is a version control system that keeps track of files. You can store files in it, then retrieve files from it anywhere. Also, when someone else put new files in it, or makes changes to the existing files, others can just update their copies with a few clicks; also, it only updates files that were added or changed, so you aren't downloading everything every time, either. It's a whole lot easier than storing a ton of different links.
