But in the Mario games where Starman is applicable, you have no method of attacking side from... jumping on people's heads. So Starman gives you the ability to run through and break enemies.
However, in Smash, you're ALREADY doing that. Making it do damage would be redundant because you can actually attack. Starman wasn't in 64 for a reason.
