I know it was. My point however is that if you were to look in the Lake of Rage long enough, you would eventually find a red gyarados that is not related to team rocket. So the one referred to in D/P/Pl could either be a wild shiny Gyarados, or a hint that Team Rocket evolved the Magikarp prior to the events of HG/SS.
but the fact that they said "LAKE OF RAGE" is a straight forward reference to the red gyarados that got involved with team rocket, if it was just referencing a shiny they couldve just said anywhere else, hence why i said it was silly. not even talking timeline here, they WERE referencing that.
also i see your point on cynthia, since the event can take place at any time.
Well yeah, it's obviously a reference, but like I said (Or at least I thought I did) I don't think they actually say when the red Gyarados was "made". So it (it being the team rocket one) could have been there for some time, long enough at least for a camera crew to show up and film it.
Actually, that, along with Cynthia traveling somewhere involving myths about pokemon from her region (which means that she's most likely still has the legendary dragon trio on the mind after team galactic events) most likely means that the 2nd gen and 4th gen start around the same time.
Hey, didn't Miror B. have some little minion you could fight as an optional mini boss in the first or second game? I think his name was Minor B. Didn't he have some remic of Miror's theme?
