There is one major difference between Mario and Sonic when it comes to spin offs, Sega make their spinoffs in the same style as their main games with cutscenes, storymodes, characters that go on to be actual characters. Mario Kart didn't have Mario and Luigi running from Bowser and finding out that they can use karts.
