To, be honest, I still feel that the blind fandom is COMPLETELY warranted here.
I'll say it again. Sega pulled the "true sequel" card. This is supposed to be THE sonic game that will make up for everything post-SA2. It's supposed to he the 100% sequel to the original series.
Then they showed it to us.
People got pissed because of the graphics. THOSE are the "closed-minded" people you're talking about. Yeah, it would've looked infinitely better with HD sprited graphics, as long as the gameplay and polish, etc was kept intact, I'd be fine with the game.
Then leak #1 came. It appeared to be from a beta version of the game, as springs and stuff didn't appear to work. People raged for no reason at what was obviously incomplete.
Then the real leaks came.
While nobody can confirm that the game is finished yet or not (so I won't complain about the glitchy mechanics such as the minecart controls), you can definitely see that the game is in a near-complete state and it's highly unlikely that any of the levels and bosses will change.
THIS is where it's acceptable to get pissed off.
The game isn't a sequel at all. It's a bad mashup of the first two games, with the name "Sonic 4" slapped on.
I'm not even going to complain about the gameplay as it could still be totally fun (and obviously I haven't played it myself), but you have to admit that judging from those videos alone the homing attack breaks the game and makes it infinitely easy. And the levels still follow the Sonic Rush "single path" layout style rather than the multiple path style of the original games.
I feel that if Sega is intent on billing this as a part of the original series, the fans have a right to complain about how they didn't do a good job of making it like the original series.
