A lot of the problem is that these don't animate well. At all.
Not only that, but I realized that they have no feet.
In the game, their feet are TINY (like paper thin), but even one pixel width of foot will make it look like they aren't walking on stumps.
Here, I made an edit.

Just adding the feet alone makes them look ten times better.
