Actually the upright Death arcana means a good thing in the tarot. It means the end of a circle and the birth of something anew. Out with the old, welcome the new. But it downside means the end and you're screwed.
Only a few cards means really bad things, like Hangedman and Tower. The difference between upright and down is down is even worse.
