no but really, most people liked the mario bros film because they were kids and they literaly ate everything that was <insert fav character/game here>, reason why years after we watch them and can't understand how could we enjoy that shitfest that literally made no sense at all
the original MK movie was made for kids and a overall general audience, hence why the catchy song, the flashy effects display, and overall the whole cheesy feel of the movie(hell i still remember when sub zero and scorpion appeared on scream and i literally shit myself). this new MK movie is made for those kids who grown up that now can understand a more deep, elaborated plot(using Scorpion's real name, for example, requires that you actually know about the character's background).
if you replaced the mortal kombat characters (from the original) and instead put someone like van damme as the protagonist you'd get your generic 90's action/fantasy movie because the plot itself was quite generic and its only merit was to showcase the mk characters to be honest, nostalgia aside.
hell if you put kurt russel as liu kang you'd get Big Trouble in Little China :V
but we're biased. its our childhood and no matter what or how that movie/comic/game is made, it will never fit perfectly with the child ilusions that are burned in our memory. and this is bussiness so "fuck common sense as long as it sells its ok". there are no facts besides what the charts say.
tyvon, really its not an attack agaisnt you at all, mean, i loved mk when i was a kid too(fuck who didn't want to be a yellow/blue ninja back in the day). but really, you're letting your nostalgia taking over your point of view way too much. its just a new interpretation, and the basic DNA of the game is still there.
PS: i remember MK being totally serious about itself, and everyone taking it seriusly :V.
