The Robot seems quite pillowshaded however!

I'm not sure what that means. Nevermind, looked it up, yes I totally agree.

Those sprites use way way too many colours. Maybe it's just me, but I feel that part of the challenge of pixelart is representing your idea, but doing so with a minimal and optimum number of shades.

Yeah, I've been told this, pixel art really isn't my forte, I mostly just dabble in it now and again. I may look at some older sprites or some other spriters works to see how they do what they do.
