are these real items that are actually in the game? that have their own functions and shit, almost like an entire 'nother update?

Polycount is a forum that models stuff. (look at Gary's post)

The actual contest is a modeling contest. Someone has to choose a class to do and has to make 3 models of either all weapons, or 2 weapons and a hat. The winners of this contest get their items implemented into the game. SO it's going to be a big update, with 5 classes in 1 pack.

Now I'm not really expecting a DRASTIC change in overall gameplay from this update, just a simple new pack of more stuff to fill your backpack.
