I tried it without the bottom outline, but it looked a little odd.. The dirt is kind of piling up, so it makes sense to have some sort of shading at the bottom, I guess.

However, I did try lightening the bottom shade, and darkening the lighter shade. Seemed to work quite well, I guess (number four). In number 3, I merely darkened the lines separating each ball of dirt, as well as make some minor changes to the whacka's actual body, as with the fourth.
