If you were able to see the pokemon "brickshitting discovery" thread you'd noticed that in the original games Venomoth and Butterfree were accadently switched and they just left it that way. (Venonat and Butterfree look a lot a like)

I'm not sure I follow. If that were the case they most likely would've fixed it in Blue.
