As long as the Sonic friend isn't a queer (*cough*Silver*cough*) or some stupid made-up character for that specific game (*cough*Chip*cough*) with really dumb gameplay (*cough*telekinesis*cough*) they should be fine. I personally really want to see more Knuckles and Team Chaotix.

Having not played through 06 Directly (watched an LP), Telekinesis as an ability worked in concept, but it was just implimented really poorly. I have a feeling if they tried less to make it all HEY LOOK, HAVOK PHYSICS ENGINE, then it would have been a lot more tolerable.

Chip was plot relevant and didn't bother me aside from his voice acting and his 'I'm always hungry' dialogue gimmick. That, and I don't see the story working if they replaced him with an existing Sonic character (I guess Tikal? But that would be REALLY fanfiction-y).
