Wes, I'm not sure, but maybe "easing" might help you. :s
You see when you wave your arm from one side to another? When your hand reached the left, it SLOWS DOWN (= more frames). It's like if your hand is using breaks. In your idle animation, your character has 2 animatics. It goes from Position 1 to Position 2. Which is basically, he goes back...and forth.
Try to make him slow down, when he reaches those positions. Try to add a new frame just before the wizard is at the edge of his (in your animation that's frame 4/6), then, add another one for after frame (6/6). And hence, it'll loops.
Btw, do you use onion skins?
