That is looking pretty damn good.
The only problem being that well
Where fighters and platformers and other genres that work primarily on a 2D plane can be made entirely out of sprites; an 'into the screen' type game is a bit harder to represent without some Mode 7 shenanigans (though I guess Space Harrier did it). As it stands that's looking more like pixel art of a game than a game screen in its own right.
Though if you can get the scenery to look like it's been created using Mode 7 sprite rotation; that would be incredibly badass.
