I had a quick thought about the reverse typing, and while it doesn't work in terms of actual typing, what if somewhere down the line the starters learned some kind of move that was effective against the type they are weaker against? For example, the Ram could learn thunderbolt (associating thunderbolts with his smokey wool, which are sort of like rain clouds), the lizard could maybe have a gem on his forehead and he could learn Power Gem (rock type), and the water type could learn something like X-scissor.
